Fundamental Concepts For Grade 3

Elements of ART - colour for expression (e.g., warm and cool colours); colour to indicate emotions; mixing of colour with white to make a range of warm and cool tints.

Principles of DESIGN - focus for grade 3 is variety - slight variations on a major theme; strong contrast (e.g., use of different line, shape, values, and colours to create interest) [bright or light colour values, dark colour values]).

Source of Inspiration - I was inspired by the artist William Rhodes. I love all the different shapes and lines he used to express different emotions. Also, his paintings are really eye catching due to all the dark, light and bright colour he uses throughout his art pieces.

"Creativity takes courage"- Henri Matisse

This quote by Henri Matisse connects with me because creativity doesn't come easy for everyone. As an educator, it is important that students know everyone is different. Meaning creativity may come easy for some and can be more difficult for others. Creativity takes courage. It take confidence and everyones creativity looks different. As someone who used to lack creativity, especially in art, I feel that it is important to teach creativity and express that everyone's art work will look and be different. As confidence in creativity increases, the stress of art will decrease and the enjoyment of creativity will increase. In visual art classes judgment of your own artwork and comparing it to other is very easily done. But remembering everyone is different, and has different creativity mindsets. Courage comes with practice and in visual arts and in everyday life.
