Disruption! California 2018

I learned that people come from all walks of life, and that all teenagers are just very different people. We shouldn’t assume or put labels on someone because of where they live, or who they identify as. Teenagers are all people who are trying to figure themselves out, so you’re bound to find at least one that you like. 

Because computers have evolved from simply machines with one purpose to things that can help people communicate. There was a photo at the museum of some people with a wedding designed around WoW, which just goes to prove that computers ave disrupted simple things such as communication and how we create relationships.

High Tech High welcomes visitors because it allows other people to come in and experience what it’s like for students to learn differently than the normal way.

No, I wouldn’t want to live on the midway because it’s a lot of work, it involved muscles (what are those) and I wouldn’t be willing to be away from my life for that long.

The computer history museum gives anyone the chance to look at how technology has advanced from the 1800’s until now. It’s really interesting to see how different everything is, and what you can do with modern day technology, versus what you could do back then. Event he museum could be disruptive, because it showcases things that people haven’t seen in a while.

Disruption: When something comes in the change the norm of what was put there before.

Disruption is important to learn about because we’re learning all about technology, which has been a huge disruption, as well as places like the safari park and the USS midway, which have disrupted many things.

Stanford applicants have different standards to meet than other schools. When you apply, the school looks at who you are. They don’t care about your GPA, more about what courses you took, who you are as a human being rather than what percent you got on that test in grade 10. This is good, because it helps create a good and diverse environment for students. PLP works the same way, to apply you need to make a video about a challenge you did and succeeded in. 

The biggest thing that our guests at dinner talked about was communication. In any sort of job that you have, you need to communicate, or else everything falls apart. This is something I plan to apply to my life, and get more connections out in the world. Because if you know the right people, you can get some truly unique experiences, such as this trip. 

Google is best known for the search engine. This was disruptive because it helped people find information and made it more accessible than a library

The purpose of High Tech High is to help present students with a different way of learning. The students are allowed to curate what their projects are, as long as it makes sense. PLP is the same to a point, though High Tech High takes it a step further with the liberty in projects, and what they’re allowed to do.

The air ballon ride is important because it helps make money so they can fund the animals to have proper health care and helps fund the research towards endangered animals.

Disruptions are a major part of our world. If nothing was disrupted, we wouldn’t have history, or any advancements. We’d probably all just be stuck on this rock we call a planet with nothing to do. Disruption is the most important thing in our world today, yet so many people still try and deny it. Sometimes it’s not good, it can lead to bad things. But sometimes good things come out of it. Like the civil rights movement, or Apple, or anything else that we have. I think this trip really helped me understand that, and I’m thankful to have been given the opportunity to be there.
