Weather and climate

Today, you are going to writing your thank you letter to your teacher. Think carefully about what needs to be included. Use the features checklist and your plan from yesterday to help you.

If you were to transition to a different part of the world, you would probably need to think about the weather and climate conditions that you would encounter as there can be many differences.

Weather&nbsp;is a description of what the conditions are like in a certain place. eg. hot or cold, wet or dry, windy or calm or stormy, with thunder and lightning

Climate&nbsp;is a description of the average weather conditions in a certain place for the past 30 or so years. Different areas of the world have different climates. Climate is influenced by lots of different things: how near or far it is from the&nbsp;Equator, how near or far it is from the sea, how high or low the ground is or its position on a continent

Don't forget: - senders school address - date you are sending the letter - introduction (why you are writing) - what are you thanking them for? - what do you want to remind them of? - conclusion - complimentary sign off - senders name

Activity 4

Ending the school year can be a time that is full of mixed emotions. However, remember whilst many aspects of school life change, many remain the same too. Task 1: Spend some time thinking of all of the things that will stay the same and the differences between your class now and the new class that you will be going into. For example, your lunchtime may change but you are still part of the choir.

A class charter is a set of rules and promises that you, the other children in your class and your teacher have agreed on for their classroom. Even though you can't agree on any with you new class teacher until September, you can be prepared with some ideas!

A new year is also a great time to make new friends! Task 2: Can you create a poster that gives top tips for making friends and showing kindness? Think about what would make you 'A Friend Magnet'

Task: come up with some rules and promises that you think you would like to see in your new classroom. For example: Promise to always be kind or listen when others are talking. Fill out the table below with your ideas and suggestions.

As we are nearly at the end of the school year, how lovely would it be to write a thank you letter to your teacher before you move to your new class!

You could thank them for teaching you and remind them of some of the great memories you have shared together this year. This is going to be quite an informal letter, check out the PowerPoint to know what you need to include.

Starting a new academic year is a time for you to say farewell to current teachers and classmates and say hello to many new faces. It is important for you to cherish your favourite memories.

Your task is to create a drawing or art piece of your special memory and frame it in a hand-made photo frame. You may choose to draw a favourite lesson, a funny moment with friends, a school trip, your favourite teacher or a job role that you were proud of. You may choose to decorate the photo frame provided or to make your own using card.

Task: Now that you know what needs to be included you are going to plan what you would like to go in your letter. See the planning sheet below and complete it. Think about what you want to say thank you for and anything you would like to remind your teacher of.

Growth Mindset Challenges

Are you kind to others? Everyone has worries and sometimes people don't want to talk about them, but we can make a HUGE difference to the lives of other people with KINDNESS.

Effort and enthusiasm are super important! In life we MUST try. Teachers won't mind if you get things wrong, but they will mind if you don't put effort in to try in the first place.

A 'growth mindset' is the belief that you can improve your abilities through hard work and perseverance.

A ‘fixed mindset’ is the belief that talent and intelligence are fixed and that you cannot change them by working hard.

People with a fixed mindset may * give up when problems arise. * not try because they don’t believe they have the ability. * say, "I'm rubbish at this." * say, "I can't do it."

It is important to make a positive start to the new school year in September. We must aim to work hard and be kind. Task: Fill in the person outline with things that you can do to show you are working hard. Now think about what you can do to be kind and write these around the outside. How many of these things do you do already? Highlight the ones that you would like to do more of.

People with a growth mindset will * bounce back after setbacks. * be resilient. * have a love of learning. * say, "This is hard but if I keep practising, it'll get easier." * say, "This is a new challenge. I'm going to keep trying."

Online Safety Activity 1: Alfie’s videos If needed, watch Episode 1: Block Him Right Good, Alfie again. Look at Resource Sheet 1: Alfie’s profile. Alfie has taken some important steps to make sure that he is safe when he is making videos and posting them online. Write down four steps Alfie has taken.

Activity 2: Being kind online What do you remember about Episode 1 of Play Like Share? Who wrote a mean comment about Alfie? Who ‘liked’ the comment? Why wasn’t this a kind thing to do? When we write or post something online, we must always think about how we might make other people feel. What positive words could Ellie, Alfie and Sam use to describe each other? Lesson 5: PE

Athletics- A small sports day

Stop game - Choose a way to travel around (e.g. skipping, hopping, sidesteps, galloping etc.) When a teacher or adult shouts stop or&nbsp;blows a whistle, you must freeze as fast as you can! First child to stop gets a&nbsp;point. Repeat as many times as you want.&nbsp;

Using the lines on the netball court as a start point (or a line drawn with chalk at home). You must keep&nbsp;toes behind the lines. You will swing your arms and bend your knees to&nbsp;gain momentum and jump as far as you can. You will then use a cone to mark&nbsp;how far you jumped. Leaving the cone where it is, you will try and jump past it to beat your&nbsp;score, if you beat&nbsp;it&nbsp;you can move the cone forward, if you don’t you leave the&nbsp;cone in place. Ask the teacher or adult at home to have a tape measure out so one at a time you can&nbsp;go and have&nbsp;a go&nbsp;and measure your score. Scores must be taken from the furthest body part back.&nbsp;This will normally be the heels but if you fall backwards this may be your hands.&nbsp;

Using the same starting point and cone you have been using all lesson.&nbsp;Everyone will get 4 goes to jump as far as they can. After each jump you will&nbsp;stay in the place you landed and take the next jump from that position. The person&nbsp;who has travelled the furthest from the start line after 4 jumps is the winner!&nbsp;

Setting Goals

Art can be a great tool for self-exploration and self-expression. Task 1: Create a piece of artwork which represents your personality and highlights your individual qualities. This could be a picture or something more abstract using materials available at home. You may find listening to your favourite music encourages your own expression. Task 2: Once you have completed your artwork, create an 'Artwork Label'.

Setting goals is an excellent way for you to try and achieve things that you might not think is possible. Goal setting will also help you to improve your confidence and self-esteem when you see that you can achieve the target you’ve set. Create a ‘Wheel of Fortune’. Use the headings: Learning, Friendships, Physical Challenge, Wellbeing and Family. Under each heading, write a goal thinking carefully about how long it will take to achieve each goal, who or what can help you and any difficulties you may have to overcome.&nbsp;

After writing your letter yesterday, you are going to quickly edit and improve what you have done and then publish it ready to give to your teacher.

Things to check: - spellings (use the dictionary <a href="https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/">here</a>) - punctuation - can you improve any sentences? - can you up level any words?

I can see clearly now This song was in the charts in the 1970s and has an inspirational message. It's about overcoming the hard times and having confidence that things will get better. This upbeat motivational song will leave you feeling sunny and positive.

Once you are ready, you can start publishing your letter. You can use the template below or what would be even better is writing it in your exercise book to show off your fantastically neat handwriting! I know your teacher would love to see that!

Clever lyrics What do you think the song is about? What do the weather lyrics represent? Is it actually about the weather? The song uses language about the weather to represent feelings. Can you think of any phrases that we use in everyday life that are based on the weather? Complete the task here.

Technique of running - Shuttle runs - In individual spaces lay out four cones&nbsp;of different colours 5 meters apart in front of you. You must run to the first&nbsp;cone and then back to the start line, continuing this with the second, third and&nbsp;fourth cone and then you can rest.&nbsp;Repeat this 4/5 times and each time talk&nbsp;about the development of your technique. Skills to look at: Land with tip toes first, lift opposite&nbsp;arm and opposite leg, do smaller, faster steps&nbsp;as they come close to the cone, try&nbsp;and twist body as they touch the cone. Focus on one of these&nbsp;skills each time you do the shuttle runs.
