Meet Larry Lemming and his friends

At the big wide river, Larry meets Lotty again on a warm and sunny day. "Hey Larry!", says Lotty. "Good morning, Lotty!", says Larry. "Do you want to swim in the river?", Lotty asks. "Yes, of course!", Larry answers. And so Larry and Lotty swim in the river. A few minutes later, they are at the other side and get out of the water. Now they lay down under a tree in the shadow and talk to each other. "Oh, was that a nice swim!", says Lotty. "Yes, and the water was very warm!", Larry answers. After a few minutes of talking they sit there completely quiet and relax. Then Larry has the idea to go to the field. Lotty is excited and answers: "Yes, why not?" "Okay", Larry says, "then let's go!" And so they go to the field and play catch. After five minutes of playing, Larry says: "Oh, that's a nice day! Thank you for that!"

Lotty turns a little bit red in the face after these words. They lay down in the grass side by side. Larry asks: "What do you want to do now?" Lotty answers: "Hmmm.... I want to go to the forest. Is that okay for you?" And Larry says: "Yes, of course, I want to do that too!" "Let´s go then!", Lotty replies. And so they walk into the forest together. In the forest, Larry and Lotty see a table with candles and lots of food! And then Larry shouts: "Surprise surprise!" "Oh, thank you so much!" Lotty is so happy that Larry prepared a candlelight dinner for her! And he invited their friends too! Just a minute later, they all come: Olly Owl, Harry Hare and the others. And so all the animals are very happy... After a wonderful evening, Lotty and Larry fall asleep together in the house in the tree and have sweet dreams about a beautiful day.

On a beautiful sunny day, Larry wakes up and is off on his way to the big wide river. Larry is hungry. He runs through the forest, looking for some food. After a while he stops in front of a cherry tree. The tree looks really tall! "The cherries look so yummy!", Larry says. Then he tries to climb up the tree. But he can't reach the top! Suddenly Larry hears a knock, then he hears a voice singing:

Then Larry sees a large bird. Larry shouts: "Who are you?" "I'm Woody the woodpecker!", answers the bird. "Hello, Woody! I'm Larry Lemming!" Woody flies down to Larry and asks him: "Are you okay? You look sad!" "I'm very hungry! I want to eat the cherries from the top of the tree, but I cannot get there", Larry says. "Oh, I think I can help you!", Woody says happily. Then Woody flies onto a branch of the cherry tree. With his strong beak, he knocks the branch again and again, and all the cherries fall down! Now Larry and Woody can have breakfast together. Larry eats the cherries, and Woody eats his yummy worms! So both are happy and don't have to be hungry anymore...

It was already dark, but Larry was still on his way. Suddenly he heard a noise. "What is that?", he thought. "Is that a fox?" Larry was scared because he saw a black shadow. "Is it the big bird again?" Larry wondered. But the shadow was bigger than the first one. Now Larry began to panic and made a soft frightened sound. Then the shadow began to speak: "Who´s that?" The sound was deep and strong. Larry lost all hope. He wanted to run away from this black shadow, but the shadow said: "Wait and come back, please. I don't want to hurt you!" Larry heard that it was a friendly voice and came back. Then he saw an animal in the moonlight and was delighted because it didn't look like a bird at all. The big animal asked him: "Are you a mouse?" "No, I'm Larry Lemming and I live here with the other Lemmings. And who are you?"

Larry and Lotty wanted to go on holidays with their children.&nbsp; "Hey, Peach, Pear, Pete, Poppy, Paul and Jennifer, we want to go on holidays with you. What about a nice trip to the beach?“, Larry said. "O yes!“, the Lemming kids shouted. "But be careful“, Lotty said, "and watch out! There are many dangerous animals out there, like Freddy, the red fox.“ The next day they packed their bags and left their home. When they came to the beach, they heard a strange noise. It sounded like a big dangerous animal.&nbsp; “Be quiet, kids”, Lotty whispered. “Maybe it is Freddy Fox who wants to eat us!!!” The whole family hid in the high grass, but the sound didn’t stop.&nbsp;

Poppy said: “Mum, Dad, it doesn’t sound like a dangerous animal, it sounds like an animal in pain!” “Maybe the animal needs our help”, Pete added. “Please, let’s see what’s going on!” “No, kids, you stay exactly where you are! I will go!”, Larry shouted. Larry, the brave lemming, sneaked through the grass to the end of the cliff. When he looked down he was shocked: there was rubbish all over the beach! There were rubber ducks, plastic bags, cans and glass bottles and everything was covered with oil.&nbsp; And trapped in a big net, there was Freddy Fox and there was oil all over his body. Freddy didn’t seem very dangerous at all. He screamed and cried and tried to escape, but he didn’t make it.&nbsp; “Oh, no! Poor Freddy!”, Larry thought. He was so suprised that he fell down the cliff. He rolled faster and faster and stopped in front of Freddy’s nose.&nbsp; Freddy opened his mouth and Larry saw the big white teeth.&nbsp; “This is the last thing I will see”, Larry thought, closed his eyes and waited for his death. He felt Freddy’s warm breath on his neck, but there was no pain.&nbsp;

Larry is a lemming. With his brown fur, he´s not easy to see. He is very brave and quickly gets out of danger. Larry is small and has very much endurance. When he´s getting chased, he quickly finds a place to hide. On his way to the big wide river, Larry becomes stronger and stronger. He has an amazing adventure and meets really good friends. I think lemmings have automatic instincts when they are in danger, so they can hide better or run faster than usual. by FrRa

Larry Lemming had already been on a long journey and was really tired now. So he looked for a nice place to sit down and to take a rest. Then he saw a big stone under a tree. "I think it’s a good place to relax“, he said happily. When Larry was next to the stone, he jumped on it and lay down. Suddenly, the stone was shaking! Larry almost fell down! "Oh no, an earthquake!“, he shouted.&nbsp;But he also heard a voice: "Who is there on my shell? This is no place for lying down!“ Then Larry Lemming saw that the stone had legs and a very old face. The face looked at Larry. Larry looked at the face. "Hello“, said the face. "I’m Tina the turtle.“ "Hello Tina. I’m Larry Lemming. I’m on the way to the wild wide river.“ "You go through the world so fast and don’t see the wonders all around us. I think I can show you all of them. If you want you can stay on my shell and I will show you the world.“

Larry Lemming agreed and was really happy about this change of view. The turtle crawled slowly into the forest. Larry Lemming sat on her shell and looked around. At first he saw a squirrel on a tree which collected some nuts. One nut fell on Larry´s belly. What a great coincidence! Larry was so hungry, so he ate the nut and was very satisfied. Then he saw a bird flying in the sky, a rabbit and a mole with a black fur. He recognized so many things he hadn´t seen before. And all of this happened only because he was on a very, very slow part of his journey. At the end of this trip he said to Tina: "Thank you for this wonderful tour, Tina. You showed me what it is like to go my way slowly.“ And then he said 'bye' to Tina, the turtle, and went into the wide world.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Plastic waste is a general, a global problem for people and nature. But it turns into a catastrophe when the plastic falls into little pieces and gets into our water system and the oceans. Scientists say that there is a very high probability that there is NO ecosystem on the earth which is without plastic waste. But everyone can help to reduce plastic waste: Skip plastic bags! Use reusable shopping bags! Use stainless steel or glass water bottles! Buy less packaged food! Use reusable towels in the kitchen! Buy milk and yogurt in glasses! Use reusable containers for packed lunch! Use glass or stainless steel straws instead of plastic straws! IT CAN BE SO EASY TO HELP THE PLANET!

When Freddy’s mouth came close to his ear, Larry heard a whisper: “Help me! I’m hurt, I’m tired and I’m trapped in this net! I know, I was mean to you, but if you help me, I will always be your friend and protect you and your family!” “O.K.”, said Larry. “Do you promise?” “I promise!”, answered Freddy, he lay down and closed his eyes. “Hey, Lotty, hey Peach, Pear, Pete, Poppy, Paul and Jennifer”, Larry shouted. “Everything is all right. Come down, we need your help.” Lotty and the kids came down to the beach, but when they saw Freddy Fox they were very afraid.&nbsp; “This is Freddy Fox, Larry! When he is free, he will eat us!”, Lotty said. “No, he will not”, Larry answered. “When we help him, he will protect us. He promised!” The lemmings gnawed the net in pieces and Freddy Fox was free. “Thank you very much! Now I will be your friend forever!”, Freddy said and gave them a big long hug. “I thought I had to die in all that rubbish. The humans throw away a lot of garbage and don’t care about the animals and the nature. It’s really dangerous here at the beach.”&nbsp;

“O.K”, Peach said. “Then let’s do something good for the nature.”&nbsp; And so they worked and worked together and collected all the rubbish on the beach, but they didn’t do it alone. A lot of animals joined and helped them and they all became good friends. On their way home the lemming kids said. “This were the best holidays ever. Which beach do we clean in our next holidays? When we all work together we can save our environment!”

On a new sunny morning, Larry woke up and saw a big mountain with a lot of snow far away. He thought: "Maybe the big wide river is behind this mountain?" He climbed up a hill, but suddenly there was a blizzard! Strong winds blew the icy snow into Larry´s face. Larry was cold, and he looked for place to hide from the storm. Some meters away, Larry discovered a hole in the snow which covered the ground. It led him to a cave. Larry went inside, but he slipped and crashed into something soft. In the same moment, a deep voice shouted: "Roarrrrr! Who is waking me up?" Larry whispered: "Sss....orrr...y! I didn't want to wake you up! I´m Llllarry Lemming and I need a shelter from the big blizzard outside!" Slowly, Larry could see something in the darkness - a big bear with white fur and large paws!

Larry asked him: "Who are you?" "I'm Denis, the polar bear. Okay, here's a tiny place for you to wait." Larry was facilitated and told the polar bear about his long way to the big wide river. After three days, the big storm calmed down. Larry said: "Thanks for your help, but I must go now. I have one last question for you: Do you know where the big wide river is?" "I don't know where it is, but maybe you can find it behind the mountain. Good luck, little lemming!", Denis answered. Larry said goodbye to Denis and was on his way again....

As a lemming, you have many enemies and things to be afraid of. Life is hard because the other animals are often bigger and eat lemmings. Lemmings live in mostly warmer places (like their cozy burrow) and eat a lot of different things such as corn or berries. Their home is usually hidden so that they are protected from enemies. Lemmings often live in larger groups so that they can protect each other. They have a very fragile life. Lemmings can't swim very well, but they look cute when they are wet. The colors of their fur are mostly natural, and they are really cute animals. But a person´s life is definitely easier than a lemming´s, because we can defend ourselves with many things.

After this event, Larry walks through the forest and is looking for something to eat, but he can't find any food. A few moments later, he hears a loud thunder. "Oh no“, he thinks, "my parents warned me about those black clouds in the sky.“ Larry runs away, but suddenly an animal is standing in front of him that he has never seen before. He is afraid that the animal could set up a trap for him or even eat him, but it asks in a friendly voice: "Hello, I´m Walburga, a wild boar. Can I help you?“ It is starting to rain and Larry is getting wet like a dog. "Jump on my back“, says Walburga, "I can help you! I bring you to my cave, it is very big and you can warm up there. If you want, you can stay all night long.“ Walburga lies down and Larry jumps on her hairy back.

After some minutes they arrive at her really beautiful home. There is a bed, some other furniture and a big bag full of nuts, mushrooms and fruits. Can I take such a nut?“, Larry asks Walburga. "Yes, of course, eat as much as you like. Do you want to play a game with me?“ They play toghether and the two become very good friends. They don't know that the time ran away and that it got very dark outside. Late in the evening,&nbsp;they build a small bed for Larry, and Walburga tells him a bedtime story.&nbsp;

Alaska is a state of America. It´s interesting that Amerika bought Alaska from Russia. The first people came thousands of years ago from Asia. Now they are called the "Inuit". That simply means "People". The traditional food in Alaska is scallops, which are mussels. Most traditional clothes are made of fur. The favorite sport of the Inuit are dogsled races. Most of the people in Alaska are Christians. Many bird species and bears live in Alaska. Trees you can see are birches and pillars.

Lotty travelled with other friends too.

Lotty is a beautiful young lemming lady.

She went to the big wide river like Larry.

Lotty is a strong and optimistic girl.

Lotty and Larry go to the happy land on the other side together.

Larry Lemming is getting ready for a new nest. On his way, he meets many of his friends. Then, a gopher comes to Larry and asks him: "Can I help you find a new big nest?" Larry says: "Of course!" The gopher´s name is Patrik, and he's very small too. He is a good boy and likes to help other animals, so he has many friends.

Larry and Lotty had a child. The girl´s name was 'Lorry'. She went to the nursery school. Lorry was a nice, shy and pretty girl. At the nursery school she met her friend, Haley. Haley was a hamster. Her coat was a golden brown, like Lorry´s coat. They played together every single day. Sometimes they even had a sleepover together. Their parents became friends too. When it was time to go to primary school, it was very sad for them because they could not go together. But when they went to nine years of secondary school, they were in the same school and in the same class! They were really happy to see each other again. They grew up together and now they are still good friends. One day, Haley had a baby! Lorry always took care of Haley´s little one - his name was 'Harry'. Lorry was like an aunt for Harry. Next morning, Larry woke up early. A sunray tickled his nose. "Atishoo!" sneezed Larry. It was a beautiful morning and Larry ran out out his improvised nest. At the horizon, he could see the big mountains with their white tops. "I must pass the mountains, but how can I do that?", thought Larry. An hour later, he was at the foot of the mountains. He began to climb, but it was too difficult, and so he sank down on a rock exhaustedly. Suddenly he heard a strange sound: "Baa!", it came from a rock across him. "Who is there?", asked Larry. "Baa! I'm a mountain goat, and my name is Molly! Baa!" Larry climbed higher and higher, and at last he could see Molly the mountain goat. "But who are you, little animal?", Molly asked. "I'm Larry Lemming and I'm going to the big wide river. To get there, I must cross the mountains, but that's too difficult for me!", replied Larry.

"Baa! Well, maybe I can help you!", Molly offered. "Would you do that for me?", Larry asked, full of hope. "Of course! Baa!", Molly said. "Get on my back! I will take you across the mountains. But hold on tight! It´s dangerous!" So Larry jumped on Molly´s back. "Baa! Off we go!", cried Molly. "Yahoo!!!", Larry shouted, "That's great!" Molly jumped faster and faster from rock to rock. After a while Larry cried: "It´s so cold, Molly! What's that white thing on the ground?" Molly stopped and said: "That's snow. It´s very cold! Come on and touch it." Larry jumped off Molly´s back. "That's cold!", he squeaked. Molly laughed: "Bahaaa!" "Let´s go on!", Larry shouted and jumped on Molly´s back again. Two hours later they were on the other side of the mountains. "Thank you so much, Molly!", Larry said. "No problem, little lemming! Baa!", replied Molly. "Bye!", shouted Larry and was back on his way to the big wide river...

The snow goose belongs to the duck family. The species was discovered in 1758. There are two types of snow geese: The lesser snow goose and the greater snow goose.&nbsp; The lesser snow geese are usually white, but they can also have a grey-blue plumage. These are also known as blue snow geese. Greater snow geese are almost always white.&nbsp; Snow geese grow to be 60 to 75 cm long. Males and females look very similar. They have a wingspan of 150cm and weigh 2.5 to 4 kg. Snow geese can live up to 20 years.

Late in the evening, Larry was still on his way to the big wide river. He was so hungry! An hour later, he finally found something for dinner - yummy acorns... With his little tummy full of acorns, Larry quickly fell asleep. Suddenly a large snake appeared! "Whoa!", Larry shouted in surprise. "Who are you?" "I'm Jackson, the snake", the snake answered. "And who are you?" "Larry, Larry Lemming... I'm ... I'm looking for the big wide river. Please don't eat me! Do you know where it is?" The snake thought for a while: "No, I don't, because I live here in the forest and I'm always in one place." All of a sudden, Larry noticed that Jackson´s skin was starting to peel off! "What are you doing?"

Larry was shocked. "I'm skinning myself. All snakes have to do that when they grow up", Jackson replied. "Oh, now I understand." One minute later the spectacle was over. Then Larry asked: "Do you want to eat with me?" "I don't mind", Jackson answered. So, both had a nice breakfast in the morning together. After breakfast, Larry said goodbye to the friendly snake and wanted to continue in the direction of the big wide river, when he suddenly opened his sleepy eyes and realized: It was all just a dream!
