"Peace"

&nbsp;When tradesmen and merchants, who profited from War, appear in the feast, (like the helmet-maker and spear-maker), Trygaios offers suggestions to them about what they can do with their merchandise!

In Greece a terrible civil war goes on, destroying every town. Trygaios' mission is to reason with the gods about the war or, if they do not listen, he will prosecute them for treason against Greece.&nbsp;

A Chorus of excited Greeks from various city-states arrives and they manage to set Peace free.

Peace&nbsp;is an Athenian&nbsp;Old Comedy&nbsp;written and produced by the Greek playwright&nbsp;Aristophanes. As all the early plays of Aristophanes it was written and acted against a background of war. It was staged a few days before the&nbsp;Peace of Nicias&nbsp;was validated (421 BC), which promised to end the ten-year-old&nbsp;Peloponnesian (civil) War.&nbsp;

Arriving outside the house of the gods, Trygaeus discovers that the gods have departed for some remote refuge, where they hope never to be troubled again by the war or the prayers of humankind. The new occupant of the house has already moved in – War. Trygaios hides and sees him blending all the Greek towns in a big mortar!

Moreover, War keeps Peace in prison, in a cave. When War goes indoors to get himself a pestle, Trygaeus boldly takes this opportunity to summon Greeks everywhere to come and help him set Peace free, while there is still time.&nbsp;

This is why he mounted the giant beetle and now he is flying high, up on the house of Gods: on Mount Olympus!

The play ends with Trygaios announcing the wedding between him and Harvest and he opens up the house for celebrations:&nbsp;Everybody sings: "Hymen Hymenai'O! Hymen Hymenai'O!"

We called our small drama group "Just the 5 of us", because, during that week, Isidora, Maximos, Niki, Constantina and Savvatou, were the only five pupils in class. Sadly, the rest of our classmates of class 6b of the 3rd Primary school of Loutraki, had to stay at home due to increasing Covid cases. The "war" with the invisible enemy was still going on and the "Celebration of Peace and no-violence day in eTwinning" was very near. Although we were just a few, we decided to celebrate the day, make our own version of the well known Ancient comedy of "Grandfather Aristophanes" (as we, children call him in Greece). We decided to do so, because as Trygaios, we believe that Peace is fundamental for all human actions and humans, despite circumstances and difficulties, should fight for this supreme cause. Art, comedy, preparation, imagination, creativity and collaboration would feed our "beetle". If gods had different wills and intensions, we should not give up, we would spread the word with our small ebook to find more companions, who "Ιmagine all the people, living life in Peace". We dedicate this ebook and the 1st place award, that it won in the <a href="http://carano4children.org/leonardo4children-2022-fables/">Leonardo4children 2022</a> competition, to all our beloved classmates.

Although Trygaios had tried to stop the War, his efforts were to no avail. He feels desperate and is in deep thoughts..

3,2,1, let the play begin!

The play begins with an Athenian, called Trygaios,&nbsp;feeding a giant dung beetle. He has brought it home from the Mount Etna and he intends to ride it and fly to Olympus for a private audience with the gods. But, why does he want to see the gods?

"Peace and no Violence -school day", 30th of January, in "Explore and Discover" eTwinning project-2022.

At last, Peace and her companions, Festival and Harvest, are brought back to Athens. Trygaios apologizes to Peace on behalf of his countrymen and the feast and the celebration begin.

Helmet crests can be used as dusters, spears as vine props, breastplates and helmets could serve as baby pots!&nbsp;
