'These are the things I think you need to know.'

Our first topic we have used the story 'Here we are' by Oliver Jeffers, written to help us discover some important things that we need to know about our planet. We used this book to help us understand our local area, ourselves and discover what is important about us.

The first important issue we explored was staying safe, due to the current climate, so we looked at good hygiene and ensuring that we understood why we washed our hands. Mrs Wolfarth, pretended to 'sneeze' into her hand, and using paint, began to touch items in the classroom and high fived some children. She then asked us to shake hands or hold hand with others to see how easier it was for her 'paint' germs to transfer throughout the class. We then visited the toilets and Miss Sim and Mrs Wolfarth supported us washing our hands, to ensure all the 'paint' germs had been washed away.

Staying within the school field, we identified the features of the local environment; road, shops, bus stop. We then ventured out again and collected items from the natural environment discussing that these were natural and important to keep the land clean and tidy.

Using the collected items we explored how using different media and materials can create interesting artwork.
