From the 15th to 19th May the students at Escola Secundária de Vagos wellcomed and hosted their Erasmus´partners from Poland, Türkiye, Romania, Greece, Spain.

We watched the professor making a ruler out of recycled plastic and using special machines to recycle, this part made by a student.

We learned about Nature Base Solutions and experienced with the help of some teachers to create parks/Green Areas in the city to reduce high temperatures, CO2 with places for rain water .

During the Welcome Ceremony, we saw traditional dances and heard traditional music.

We participated in Speaker´s Corner, defending environment causes.

Students did national presentations concerning the topics of the mobility.

Then we were shown how to do the dances and learnt them as well.

Wednesday was about the theme Water pollution 

We went to Labrego and walked to Vagueira looking for anything that could pollute the ocean and the beach coast, like plastic and glass.

We had a guided tour in the UA, and we had the oportunity to watch how the plastics are recycled. After we had a lecture about Nature Based Solutions, restoring then a group activity about building green parks in the city, with a reward.

On the opening day, we kicked off with engaging presentations and a lively display of a traditional Portuguese dance - "Pauliteiros de Miranda" to provide a glimpse into Portugal's vibrant culture. 	Afterwords, we were delighted with a captivating theatre performance by talented schoolmates with disabilities, which brought joy and inspiration to everyone. In the afternoon, we experienced an orienteering course in Quinta do Ega" which was a fantastic and enjoyable time for all participants.

Our day began with a delightful visit to Costa Nova. The picturesque village greeted us with its iconic stripped houses, each one a vibrant burst of color that painted a cheerful scene. 	After soaking up the coastal charm, we made our way to the Museum of Codfish in Ílhavo. This unique museum provided us with a fascinating insight into the history and importance of codfish in Portuguese culture - "Faina Maior". It was truly an enriching experience that deepened our understanding of Portugal's maritime heritage and fishing traditions. 	 	In the afternoon , we had the privilege of playing traditional Portuguese games. We joined the students at another school, where we were warmly welcomed into a world of laughter and friendly competition.

16th May, in the afternoon

What was we supposed to do? Plan A, canoeing, paddle boarding and nautical activity. But since plan A didn't work, we had plan B. What's plan B?

Plan B Play soccer, volleyball, rock climbing, mountain biking and play traditional Portuguese games.

We visited Museu Marítimo de Ílhavo and we saw the beauty that is hidden underneath the Atlantic Ocean. We also learned about how fishermen worked in the past and how Codfish was prepared and cooked.

We saw beautiful shells collected from all over the world, even species that are difficult to find.

Pollution can be defined as a degradation of the environmental quality resulting from activities that harm the health, safety and well-being of the populations, who cause damage to fauna and flora and affect environmental health.

	Water pollution is the release of substances into water that makes it unsafe for human use and disrupts aquatic ecosystems. Water pollution originated by different&nbsp;toxic waste and&nbsp;petroleum causes diseases with microorganisms. .

To reduce water pollution we can consume less plastic (plastic bottles and straws, disposable packages/cutlery, etc..) and start rethinking, reducing, reusing and recycling.

To start well the week we had a welcome ceremony with music, dance and theater. Then the national teams presented their presentations about green areas and water pollution. Later at the speaker's corner we introduced our speech. In the afternoon we had an orienteering course in "Quinta do Ega".

On the first day of arriving in Vagos, Portugal, we went to the students' school "Secundária de Vagos", where everyone welcomed us so warmly. We received our tags with ERASMUS+. After that the 6th - grade and special - need - students pleased us with some wonderful traditional dances. We even learned how to dance with "palotes"!

We had so much fun and the students made such a good first impression!

'sea snot' is a growing environmental threat

The Marmara Sea has been swamped by a thick, slimy blanket of sludge which thrives on pollution and warm temperatures. Marine life and aquatic industries around the world are facing similar organic threats.

A huge mass of organic matter has bloomed over the surface of Turkey's Marmara Sea, south of Istanbul,&nbsp;boosted by global heating and an overload of pollutants including&nbsp;wasetwater<a href="https://www.dw.com/en/the-business-of-wastewater/a-38061683"> </a>and pesticides. The thick, slimy gray-brown sheets, known as marine mucilage, are made up of dead and living organic material, much of it phytoplankton. These microscopic algae usually help fill the ocean waters with oxygen, but when stressed they can grow out of control and produce a sticky mucus-like substance that can span many square kilometers.

This alarming scenario is becoming all too real in many parts of the world due to water pollution. It's time to take action!! Water pollution is a severe threat to our health, ecosystems, and the future of our planet. Chemicals, plastics, and untreated sewage seeping our water sources, silently wreaking havoc on aquatic life and the delicate balance of nature. We must act now, to protect our water resources. Educating ourselves and others about the dangers of water pollution is the key. Spread the word, raise awareness, and inspire change within your community. Together, we can reverse the tide of water pollution and ensure a future where clean and abundant water is a reality for all. Remember, the health of our planet is inextricably linked to the health of our water. Let us rise to the challenge and protect this precious resource before it's too late. The time for action is now.

In the morning, in groups we made and carry out our padlet and book creator. In the afternoon we visited the city of Porto. Everyone just had a very good time.

Water pollutants may cause diseases or act as poison. In poorly treated sewage bacterias and parasites  may get into drinking water supplies and cause digestive problems such as cholera and diarrhea. Unfortunately chemicals from industries , pesticides and herbicides from farms and golf courses can cause acute toxicity and immediate death, or chronic toxicity that can lead to neurological problems or cancers.

After that we did the "Speakers Corner" which consisted on saying what was on our mind about the environmental issues and solutions.

On the first day in the morning we did the welcome ceremony with traditional Portuguese music where small gifts from the municipality were given. We also saw the presentations of the 6th grade music class and then we passed on to the powerpoint presentations of each country. 

After lunch we did an orienteering race in Quinta do Ega.

In the afternoon we visited Porto city and some of its most well-known attractions.

In the morning, we started writing books summarising our trip with our groups.

We visited two of the most famous beaches in Portugal. In this picture, we are in Costa Nova in front of the famous stripped houses.

After cleaning up the beach, we went to the "Museu Marítimo de Ílhavo". We saw a lot of codfish and "Moliceiros"!

In the afternoon we went to school and tried a lot of different activities: Tradicional games and riding the bicycle, clibing the wall, playing voleyball... We had lots of fun there!

In the morning we started our activities at school related to the six mobility in Vagos. And then we went to Porto to visit the city.

On the first day, the students presented their power-points about green areas and water pollution, addressing the problems it causes in their countries, but also what they can do to prevent it.

In the afternoon we went to the University of Aveiro and did activities in the environment department, such as research and making new things out of recycled plastic.

In the morning we visited the coast line, dunes and beaches, Labrego e Vagueira and we cleaned up the beaches. 

After everyone being comfortable with one another, every country showed their presentation about Water Pollution and Green Areas, that led us to writing slogans about what we want to change about our planet and after that we protested outside.

That led to our afternoon activities: Visiting the University of Aveiro. There we visited the campus, and participated in Nature Base Solutions (NBS) simulations, to create sustainable Green Areas in the city. In a lab we participated in activities about plastics! It was very fun and very didactic! 

On the third day, in the morning, we went to the beach where every student collected litter from the sea shore, microplastics and some glass. 

On our fourth day we went to Porto, where we walked through the beautiful city. We enjoyed everything that the headmaster of the school showed us! 

In the morning we went to Costa Nova and Barra beaches. We also visited the Museu Marítimo de Ílhavo, where we had so much fun seeing the codfishes and the history of fishing them - "Faina Maior", shells, seaweed, etc.

On the third day, we embarked on a meaningful trip to Vagueira beach, where we actively participated in a beach cleanup initiative to contribute to preserve the environment. By collecting trash and debris, we demonstrated our commitment to creating a cleaner and healthier ecosystem. 	 Later, we visited the University in Aveiro, where we had a guided tour that showed innovative activities focused on reusing plastic, as well as the implementation of green spaces in the city - with nature based solutions. Through engaging and enjoyable experiences, we learned valuable insights on how to promote sustainable practices and enhance the natural beauty of urban areas.

On the fourth day, our morning was dedicated to working on the project you are currently reading. We engaged in productive discussions and put our creative energies into shaping its content. In the afternoon, we embarked on an exciting trip to Porto. It was a truly enjoyable experience as we hopped in the train, shared laughter, captured beautiful moments through photographs, and admired the magnificent Douro River. Exploring the city, we even had the chance to purchase unique souvenirs. Although we arrived back at school later than expected, the day was filled with incredible memories and a sense of fun that will be cherished for a long time.

Water pollution is the contamination of water sources by substances which make the water unsafe for drinking, cooking, cleaning, swimming, and other activities. Pollutants include chemicals, trash, bacteria, and parasites. All forms of pollution eventually make their way to the water. Air pollution settles onto lakes and oceans. Land pollution can seep into an underground stream, then to a river, to the ocean and eventually in our body and animals.

In the morning we all went to the Labrego and Vagueira beaches to pick up trash. Then before lunch we visited the Salinas. In the afternoon we had activities in the university and with them we learned how to recycle and use plastic waste. We learned how to create parks in the city to reduce Co2 emissions, high temperatures and a place for the rain water using the 'nature based solutions techniques.

Aveiro, the city that " kisses the ocean" The day began, with the bus trip towards the coast village "Costa Nova", on the way we watched the pine forest of Vagueira, an example of Green Areas.

The Bay of Barra Then we went to Barra beach, where we strolled, we saw the sea, the lighthouse of the "Barra", one of the tallest in Europe. It was a "talk time" and a moment to learn about seawall and how it influences the costline.

"Bacalhau" for the win We visited the codfish museum - Museu Marítimo de Ílhavo, where we learned about the fish, the fishing - Faina Maior and the boats (Dori) used for this purpose.

In the morning we went to Costa Nova Beach and Barra Beach to see the typical houses in Costa Nova, as well as the Atlantic Ocean. Afterwards, we visited Museu Marítimo de Ílhavo.

In the afternoon, we went back to school and participated in sport activities.

The hosts decided to take their guests to the beach so that we could have a funny day, see the lighthouse and enjoy the weather in Portugal. That day was a little windy but that didn't stop us from having fun!

After the beach, we decided to take our guests on a walk to sightseeing around Barra. We saw someone selling "tripas" and we decided to buy one for the guests so that they could taste it. Everyone liked it!

International Students come to Portugal for ERASMUS+

In the morning our teacher made groups and we started our project - Bookcreator - where we have to describe our ERAMUS week and talk about the topic we chose.

After lunch at school, we headed to Oporto. We spent the whole afternoon there. We saw a lot of great views, bought presents for our parents and guests, ate ice cream and had a great time together.

On the third day, we visited Areão e Vagueira beaches, collecting shells and cleaning it from dangerous plastics.

Then, we visited the University of Aveiro, in which we were shown plastic recycling techniques and green solutions for the environment - nature based solution.

Younger shoolmates performed in the welcome ceremony with a play " O sofá", songs and played music with mobile phones.

1. Raise Awareness! Use social media plataforms, organize awareness campaigns, and engage in discussions at school or community events to inform others about the importance of clean water and the impact of pollution.

2. Reduce Plastic Waste! Reusable water bottles and shopping bags to reduce plastic waste. Organize clean-up events in local beaches, rivers, or lakes to remove litter and prevent it from entering the water bodies.

3. Support Eco-Friendly Practices! Promote eco-friendly practices such as reducing the use of chemical cleaners, fertilizers and pesticides that can contaminate water sources.

We hope that you liked this week in Portugal!

We finished the e-books and presented them to the rest of the students and teachers.

In the afternoon we visited Aveiro city, went shopping and had the Farewell ceremony.

It is the last day... Weare going to visit Aveiro and Moliceiro, we are probably going shopping and having a farewell dinner to say goodbye to our friends❤

After that, we took a walk down Barra and Costa Nova beaches, enjoying the iconic stripped houses along the way.

On the second day of the mobility we visited "Museu Marítimo de Ílhavo" a museum dedicated to show Portugal's cod fishing history - "Faina Maior".

And after lunch, we participated in some sports activities and tradition games in the school.

We had a dance presentation by our young school mates and we had the plesure to dance with them. Another interesting activity was "Pauliteiros de Miranda", when we played music with sticks.

At the welcoming party the kids with special needs made a perfomance for us called "O sofá".

In conclusion ERASMUS+ was an awesome project that we all worked hard to make it happen so we should be very proud of ourselves!
