Click on the link to the ape cam at the San Diego Zoo. Observe the apes for 10 minutes and notice their behaviors. What are they doing? How are they like humans and how are they not like humans - especially in their actions and behaviors? If the ape cam doesn't show any apes, try the <a href="https://zoo.sandiegozoo.org/cams/baboon-cam">baboon cam</a>. If the ape cam at the zoo is not working, then go to this <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgXWDk7rh4w">gorilla cam</a> instead. It is NOT a cam at the San Diego Zoo.

Do you like learning about animals? Some scientists were once children who also loved animals! They loved them so much, they made a career of studying them, learning about them, protecting them, or even taking care of them. We have learned a lot about the environment, living things in the environment, and even ourselves through the study of animals.

Make a page on the animals that you watched on your live cam. Draw a model of your animal, include a photo Take a screenshot of your animal What behaviors or actions did you observe? What did you notice? What do you wonder?

Scientists make observations and ask questions. Practice your observation, writing, and asking question skills. 1. Choose a shell from the box. 2. Take a photo of it and put it on this page. 3. Examine it closely - use your sense of sight and touch, use a magnifying glass. 4. Describe the details - shape, color, texture, etc. Add text boxes or shapes to tell about your shell 5. What questions do you have about this shell or other shells? What do you wonder about. 6. Draw your shell in your science notebook (paper one in your folder) - then take a photo and put in your digital science notebook on the other page.

African Dwarf Frogs

What did you find out about frogs from watching them?

What do you wonder now? What questions do you have about African Dwarf Frogs?

They are really fast. And they jump a lot. 

I wonder what they were doing. Jumping around.

Compare last year's process to what we observe this year. Do NOT focus on the fact that we have 3 this year and only did 1 last year. This is about the process of decomposition. How did the pumpkins decompose the same? How did they decompose differently?

What is different about our two NEW frogs? What else do you notice about their habitat?

In this slideshow, there are lots of animals that use their coloring to stay safe, help them survive, and/or hide from predators or prey. The slides show many pictures and videos to help show the different ways. When you are done with the slide show, create a text box and write at least FOUR things that you noticed. Drawing using videos MUST be done quietly. If you use special supplies, please make sure they are put back in the right location with all lids on. Pay attention to table numbers. If using alcohol markers, please get a piece of scrap construction paper to put underneath and wipe the table with a wipe afterwards. 

Legos or Brain Flakes - only one box per table. Work quietly and take everything apart when done and put them away. Check under tables. 

Animal Live Cams

Give yourself a few minutes to search around and look at different live cameras. After you have searched, you need to pick ONE live camera to watch.
