Learning Advance 2022

My group for DI is doing Festival Frenzy, which is the improv challenge. This means that we don’t have to create deliverables like the challenges require. That also means we didn’t have that much to do during the DI ‘sweatboxes’ that we did. During that time though, we were able to brainstorm story ideas for the eight festivals that we had to choose. Once we had come up with basic ideas for each festival, we randomly chose one, and tried to do a skit with that. I think we did improve our improv skills a bit, but I think we still need to work on how we work together as a team. To do that, we need to make we’re listening to everyones ideas, and not interrupting them, but to also not let one person control the whole group. Overall, I think we did okay, but after about an hour or so, we all lost focus and didn’t get anything done. I think I could have tried to get everyone back on track, and we might’ve gotten some more done.

For future PLP field studies, I’m looking forward to being surrounded by all my friends for a few days because it was super fun. What will be difficult about future field studies, is if we have to make another ebook like this one, where we had to fill out all these specific boxes, and you have to have the right photos and videos and stuff. I would have found this easier if we were told to make an ebook, not start with a template, and to just add whatever we wanted to it. I can’t wait till the next field study we go on because I’m sure it’ll be fun as well. 

Blondie Discovers Alien Life Form Known as Orange Blob

I took this photo when we were doing the photo walk. My friend Sydney and I were walking around, and I saw these trees, and I thought they looked cool. Then I went closer to the trees, so the angle would better.

On this learning ‘advance’, I hoping to learn some stuff about nature. 

I am excited for the bus. I am excited because I get to sit with my friends, and it will be fun. 

Every night at Loon Lake, we would get ‘evening fun’ where we could go do 1 of 4 activities that had been arranged. There was one where you could in the gym and do something, you could watch the Olympics, play board games, and one other one but I forget. My friends and I decided to do the board game option. I had brought a deck of cards, so I thought it would be fun if I taught everyone one of my favourite card games (it’s called Garbage). We did have to use two decks though because there was a lot of people.  It was very fun. We were listening to music, and at one point, we were all singing along to Bohemian Rhapsody. It was great. This was one of my most favourite parts out of the whole trip.

In this activity, we learned about being ‘ready’. I think. I don’t really remember a lot from this activity, but this page needs to be filled out, so here we go. First thing we did was watch a video. It was an ad for a book. After we watched that, we started to write notes. If you look at my notes, you can see that I had to write the following: Ready for now (meaning being present in the current moment), Ready for what’s next (being fully aware of things that need to get done), Ready for transitions (being prepared for change), and Ready for anything (I don’t think I have to explain this one). Then, I had to write some ‘are you ready’ questions. As you can see some of them are kinda random, like: are you ready to escape the Matrix?, am I ready to slay the evil dragon?, am I ready to win on Wheel of Fortune?. And so on. I think I could have done a better job with paying attention, I forgot we even did this.

In case you’re wondering, the image shown here is not in any way related this paragraph. As I’m working my way through this book, I realize I did not take as many photos as I should have. So, instead of there being nothing, I have supplied you with a beautiful image of a Renaissance Harpsichord. Moving on- today, the most strangest thing happened… Our teachers (Mr. Hughes and Ms. Willemse) led us outside, told us to wait for a minute, while they went on, walking up the path in the direction of the dining hall. After a minute, we saw them appear on the balcony (I think that’s what it was) attached to the Pan abode. In their hands- snacks. We had already had lunch, but were hungry again. Then, they began to throw the food down to us. It was as if a plethora of granola bars and oranges was being cast down from the heavens. I got hit by an orange. And a granola bar. Later, Ms. Willemse said it was her favourite part of the day. It was very strange. I learned that I need to work on my catching ability.

Okay, to start, my name isn’t actually Blondie, (though the majority of my friends call me that) it’s Hannah. At Loon Lake though, I was mostly Blondie because there’s another Hannah in PLP 8, and one in PLP 9, and it was getting confusing. Anyways, here’s some random stuff about me: I. I have 2 dogs (Tiberius and Yoda) II. I’m learning Japanese III. I dyed my hair red recently IV. I am currently finishing this ebook and accompanying blog the night before it’s due and I kinda regret not finishing it sooner V. I had pizza for dinner last night I hope you enjoyed reading this!

One place I found amazingly beautiful so far at Loon Lake is the lake because it is pretty, and it looks cool when there’s nothing disturbing the water and you can see a perfect reflection of the trees and stuff .

For this activity, we had to pull ourselves across the lake with this ferry (pictured below) then once we got to the other side, we got into groups. In these groups, we had to construct a shelter. One thing I learned from this is that when working in a group, try and find out what strengths everyone has, so things can get done quicker and easier. An example of this is, when my group was building our shelter, my task was to gather materials, so the others could work on building.
