"On the Spot"

Project description

This project aims at developing critical thinking and spotting fake news and disinformation in a digital era during which news run very fast and freely without any control. At the same time it wants to improve linguistic communication in foreign language, to enhance multicultural diversity, to strengthen the use of web tools and technology especially in distance learning.
Its activities have been carried on from January to June 2021 in cooperation with only three European countries (Spain, Bulgaria and Italy), exactly with five regions of them (Andalusia, Basque, Ruse, Campania and Sicily).
The students from the Italian team from Sicily (IIS Medi) were attending the class 4A1 of Scientific Lyceum.

The role of students

Since the beginning of the project it was clear that students would have had a great role in the project and teachers would have been like mentors in guiding them. It is amazing to highlight that all the activities were created in cooperation among students from the different countries except for the personal profile of each pupil in the TwinSpace and the escape room for the final assessment.

Invited as members to the TS, students edited their profile, following the suggestions of their teachers and using avatars created by Bitmoji according to the privacy respect.

Mystery schools

Students worked in a collaborative way putting pictures, questions and answers in jamboards for getting to know from which countries they came from. The result of this icebreaking activity was the creation of collages in order to solve the "mystery schools" and countries.

The three Countries or better five Regions of the partnership are visible and located inside the interactive Map created by Thinglink, where teachers added the school and some information about their own town/city.

e-Safety

The project emphasized esafety for all the participants (teachers and students). For this reason a lesson in each partner school was dedicated to netiquette, eTwinning code of behaviour, copyright for images, videos, music and texts. Families were involved as they had to sign written permission.

The Safer Internet Day (SID) on 9th of February was celebrated in all the participating countries. At the IIS Medi a webinar was arranged, disseminated by an article (24live).

Who is who ?

Instead of introducing themselves individually, students used a mystery game for guessing "who is who" from each partner school, following some steps:
1. they took a picture of the classroom group, where a number corresponds to each pupil, sharing it in a padlet;
2. they draw a hand with some clues about their personality;
3. they read the pupils profiles in the TwinSpace;
4. they posted messages in the Forum in the TS to try to guess.

Logo competition

Each partner school proposed a logo for the competition, publishing it in a TwinBoard and uploading all the students' proposals in a sub-page. About voting, it was used the poll system in the TwinSpace.

Italian proposals

Teachers' Communication

Teachers communicated each other by different channels: TwinMail, Teachers' bulletin, Forum, online meetings, emails, Messenger group. Videoconferences were arranged inside the TwinSpace.

Communication among students

Most of the students had access to the TwinSpace. Having their personal accounts, they could communicate each other by means of the forum. They could also use emails while they were working at the online presentations.
