DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

The project aims at making the students aware of one of the biggest issues in Europe: Violence Against Women (VAW).
It is a problem of pandemic proportions. All over the world, women are victims of different kinds of violence: rape, sexual assault, murder, stalking, genital mutilation, domestic violence, each form of abuse related to the social and cultural context in which it is produced.
Gender-based violence is a brutal form of discrimination and a violation of the victim’s fundamental rights. It is both a cause and a consequence of inequalities between women and men. It unfortunately happens in every society and all EU countries, regardless of social background, whether at home, at work, at school, in the streets and online as well.
We need young people will learn to defend and respect their own and others' human rights and learn how to acquire gender balance because remaining silent is not an option, it would be acceptation or resignation of daily crimes.
The eTwinning Project

A preliminary activity was the creation of the parallel etwinning project "Violence against women".
It was to become the most important tool inside the partnership in order to plan all together, upload materials, document every activity, disseminate every event...
INFORMATION

After the project approval, the first steps were the communication to the school community during the teachers meeting at the beginning of the school year (September 2017), the creation of an Erasmus+ Team and the information by means of the school website to inform also parents and other teachers and students (direct and indirect participants):
The initial monitoring

The first online questionnaire was built in a collaborative way and given to all the students directly involved in the participating schools.
RESULTS:
The majority of the students had already heard about "gender based violence" and were aware that women victimes of violence need some help. But they didn't know almost anything about the national or international laws that should protect women rights in case of violence or to prevent it nor the existence of anti-violence centres in their towns/cities.
THE KNOWLEDGE PHASE
1." The brainstorming day" : warming up activity; in the same day, at the same slot time, all the classes involved in the project saw a movie ("Sleeping with the enemy") ; then a discussion/debating took place.
2. Analysis of articles and statistics about VAW:

Divided in groups, students analysed some articles, news, statistics about violence against women during lessons time or at home.
Also flipped classroom technique was used.
