Living Values

The biography about the man who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 for his work in helping to end racial segregation in South Africa was focused by the students and was object of foreign language curriculum and evaluation. Some episodes of his childhood were analysed as well as some of his aphorisms such as "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world".

The theme of "peace" was also used in preparation to Christmas period for many activities: the creation of the peace symbol (mascot) by origami technique, Christmas cards to be exchanged with the partners, the wish tree and the song "Imagine" sung by the students in both English and national language.

Communication among teachers and students was ensured by padlets, forum, facebook and chatroom. Teachers used also videoconferences by eTwinning live.

Peace The peace that springs from the heart and sometimes it becomes blood, your love that sometimes touches me and then it becomes tragedy death here on my shoulders, like a child full of hunger who asks for light and walks. Making a baby walk is simple, it is terrible to bring men towards peace, they satisfy death for every where, like a mouth to feed. But you master that you listen the throb of so many soldiers, you know the mouths of death they are made of papier-mache, more sinuous than sweets the untouchable lips of the woman you love.

Responsibility in the environment

Pupils discussed about the necessity to respect nature and the environment for a better life and for saving the planet. A new section of the international movement "Fridays for future" has just been created in our town as well.

Responsibility is also charity. This means to help people with fewer opportunities. For this reason, before Easter period, the students planned a collection of food in cooperation with the local parish.

The project started in November 2018. The activities plan was based on collaborative work mostly. Deadlines were monthly.

Here are the participating Countries beyond Italy: Turkey, Armenia, Finland, Portugal, Spain,Ukraine, Slovenia, Moldova, Azerbaijian. So the Partnership includes some eTwinning plus countries.

The project "Living Values"is aimed at recognition of universal values such as peace, responsibility and environmental issues. The main objectives: • To enable the students - aged 12-15- to gain an ability to think deeply about values, to develop their creativity and to turn these ideas into activities that they can apply to themselves and the world. • To develop students’ motivation and responsibility to make personal and social choices. • Ensure that all teachers, students and families in the school can interpret the values of education so that they can internalize the values • Pupils learn to use internet safely and they develop their ICT skills by using different Web 2 and 3 tools.&nbsp;

Inspired by the topic of "democratic participation", we decided to work about this theme starting from a brainstorming activity (Mentimeter). It is still possible to vote <a href="https://www.mentimeter.com/s/5a093f53161048c1e4403955d2c6cb48">here</a> Then we started a collaborative map by coggle together with the other partner schools.

The second class (2A) of Scientific Lyceum Medi was involved in the project. It is composed by 27 students aged between 14 and 15 years old. IIS Medi is a big school attended by one thousand students.It is situated in the Nord-East part of Sicily (South Italy). The first activity inside the TwinSpace was to introduce each other in the Padlet for both teachers and students. It was the first kind of communication among pupils from different countries. Avatars were used instead of real pictures by most of the partners- Italian ones included. Students enjoyed drawing their portrait by "mybluerobot". Not only logos, but also banners. In this first phase of the project pupils could discover new digital tools for drawings and graphics such as canvas and adobe spark.

Pupils reflected about the meaning of this term: what is responsibility? They applied it to a correct behaviour to be held at school and at home, that is the awareness of own rights and duties.
