Science experiment: “Dancing Bubbles”

Materials needed: * A glass of water * Postcard * Container/sink Instructions: Gently place the postcard on the top of the glass full of water. Move the glass over the container or sink. Gently place your hand on the paper, then flip the glass over. Remove your hand from the bottom and watch in amazement as the paper stays covering the glass and the water doesn't spill out.

Materials needed: * 3 eggs * 3 tall drinking glasses * Water * Salt * Tablespoon Instructions: Fill all 3 drinking glasses about 3/4 full of water. Leave the first oner with pure water, add 5 tablespoons of salt into the second one and stir until combined, add 7 tablespoons of salt into the third glass, stir. Place an egg into each glass and watch does the egg float or sink.

Under the motto "Friends of water" , the kindergarten in Chynowa started celebrating World Water Day. Preschoolers together with Paxim learned the hydrological cycle. We talked about the use of water, water pollution and what the consequences of bad actions are. We created the Water Friend Code. Preschoolers made a drop of water using a mixed methods. It was a great fun and the kids really enjoyed it. With the dance of “Little Drops of Water” kindergarden Eziukas is summarizing its active and creative participation in World Water Day activities! Actually, this was not just a single day, but the whole week of interesting events approaching 22 of March. The theme of World Water Day 2021 was valuing water. This whole week was about what water means to people, its true value and how we can better protect this vital resource. As clever water consumption is one of our project ‘s topic, our community arranged different kind of activities on that special day and the whole week approaching it. We had discussions with children “What water means to you“, watched the films how is water important to our home and family life, our livelihood, our cultural practices, our wellbeing, our local environment, visited our neighborhood rivers, made various funny experiments with water, prepared children‘s art exhibition. All kids absolutely love to play with water! What if to make learning through play? Today, proceeding with World Water Day activities, we arranged some fun, easy and educational experiments and invited the parents to become part of it as well. Floating and sinking is a fun science concept for children to explore. Using simple water trays (containers), a range of floating and sinking objects we invited kids to play, experiment, explore and discuss how and why different objects float and sink when placed into water. Afterward, we arrange a contest “A ship of my dreams”. Teachers, parents, and children enjoyed playful learning which gave opportunities to promote scientific thinking (experimentation and evaluation, predictions, observations, comparison, reasoning, data gathering); make connections with real-life experiences and develop language (using descriptive words to express ideas and opinions).

Celebration of World Water Day 2021 – Valuing Water

World Water Day is held annually on 22 March. The theme of World Water Day 2021 is valuing water. The value of water is about much more than its price – water has enormous and complex value for our households, food, culture, health, education, economics, and the integrity of our natural environment. Kindergarden “Eziukas” community is organising different kind of activities on that special day and the whole week approaching it. During this week, we are going to spread awareness of this important message and encourage everybody to learn more about water related issues, to become inspired to tell others and take action to make a difference!&nbsp;

Where Water Becomes Art, Art is… water!

Water has always been a subject of works of art: painting, architecture, music. When we asked our children to think what art is about, the unanimously answer was: “Colours mixed in water!” We proposed our children easy and funny art activities and encouraged them to be creators – to think, explore, discover and imagine! Thus, today water theme was in all our art activities: painting, dances, songs, crafts. Many of them were accompanied by the greatest Lithuanian artist and one of the best composers M. K. Čiurlionis symphonic poem “The Sea”. Art allows kids to develop their creativity which is important throughout their lives. By doing something creative, you allow for self-expression and this lets kids express (and cope with) their feelings. It also fosters mental growth in children by providing opportunities for trying out new ideas, new ways of thinking and problem-solving.

Kindergarden “Eziukas” community continued celebration activities of the World Water Day under the motto “Water and Wellbeing”. Human well-being, in its broadest sense, refers to everything important to peoples’ lives, ranging from basic elements required for human survival (food, water, shelter) to the highest level achievement of personal goals and spiritual fulfillment. Our little learners discussed how water is essential to human life and why the body cannot function without it. We arranged water degustation and tasted how a slice of lemon, orange give water a different taste, also tried some herbs (mint) to flavor it. Another very important aspect of water is sanitation and hygiene –particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. We encouraged our kids to become hand-washing superheroes! Other topic for discussions and activities was water and leisure time. Children told their stories, pictures and crafts, shared their memories about spending funny family time near a river, a sea, or a lake, playing games at the seashore or simply enjoying the relaxing sound of waves. Understanding water as having aesthetic, historical, and archaeological value to a nation’s heritage is also important. Children remarked that our native city Kaunas is surrounded by the two largest rivers of Lithuania, the Nemunas and the Neris; and our Kaunas stone castle is located at the confluence of these rivers. Afterward, children created their best pictures album “World, Water and Me”.

Kindergarden “Eziukas” community continued celebration of the World Water Day and arranged various activities on the topic “Clever water consumption”. Children shared their ideas about how water is important to our home and family lives, our livelihood, what water means to the live being, how we can value water properly and safeguard it effectively for everyone. Kids told their stories, expressed their thoughts and feelings about water through paintings and crafts. They watched the films and got acquainted with natural water resources and ecosystems, water cycle. We discussed a lot about how all the water we abstract for human use eventually returns to the environment, along with any contaminants we have added. The theme of World Water Day 2021 is valuing water, so how can we make a difference? Let us take an action together and use water more efficiently!
