Say: Now let's practice being just like the Digital Citizens you saw in the video by playing out scenes, using the Pause, Breathe, Finish Up routine we just learned. Here is a scenario I want you to imagine. You are then going to bring this scenario to life. Note: You could use this scenario and have students make their story based on it. Or, you could use it as an example, create the story together, and then ask students to come up with their own scenarios.

Say: It's easy to feel frustrated, or upset, when we are asked to stop doing something. But why do you think it's important to stop what you're doing and pause for people, even if you don't want to?&#160; Answers will vary, but highlight the following reasons: ◼ It is important to be respectful and kind. ◼ Someone may want to tell you something important.&#160; ◼ Someone wants to know you are listening to them. ◼You may have something important to do (eat dinner, go somewhere, etc.).

Learn why it's important to be aware and respectful of people while using devices. Learn the Pause, Breathe, Finish Up routine to help manage emotions when transitioning from technology to face-to-face interactions.

Say: Today we're going to talk about how we can get used to saying "goodbye" to our devices, even when it's hard or frustrating. A device is a piece of electronic equipment like a phone, tablet, or laptop. Let's start by visiting with our friends, the Digital Citizens. We'll get to see what they do when it's time for them to stop using their devices.

You have two options for the primary student task, which will serve as your competition submission. Option one, for more independent students, is to create a comic strip story. Option two requires you to take a video of your students doing a role play.

You have two options to consider for your student task in Book Creator. Option 1 is best for more independent students; they can work on their own or in small groups to&#160;create a comic strip story. Option 2 suits a younger student group and requires teacher support to video children doing role plays. Teachers can delete the other option from this page before showing students.

Option 1: Students create a comic strip story, individual or in small groups.

Option 2: Video of students doing a role play in groups.

In both options, the students set the scene; then they show the outcome of doing the wrong thing; then they show how things play out if they pause, breathe and finish up. Click on your chosen book and Remix it (copy it) into your library. For option 1, students will copy the book and create their own. For option 2, teacher may choose to create the book after filming students performing their role plays. If the class creates multiple books, the teacher can combine them into one class book.

Use this page to reinforce the 3 steps. You could take a photo of a student or the whole group doing the motions that the Digital Citizens do (see below), or you could add images or other words that the students associate with each step.
