Welcome to the Aspire Academy Trust

Welcome Truro Learning Nursery 2023-24

We have designed a progressive, sequential curriculum for our Early Years pupils. We have aligned our Nursery and Reception curriculums to ensure that our children have breath and progression in learning across Nursery and Reception.&nbsp;

Trauma Informed Schools UK is a registered community interest company working in association with the Centre for Child Mental Health. It provides training to ensure that every adult in a school or community has the skills and understanding to respond appropriately to the relational and emotional needs children may display. TiS supports schools to create a mentally healthy environment and culture in which all within the school community, adults and children alike, can flourish and achieve. It advocates a whole school response and evidenced based relational approaches to provide an enriched environment to buffer the impact of stress that may&#160;result from adversity and painful life events. In addition, specially trained Trauma and Mental Health Informed Practitioners offer targeted intervention&#160;to&#160;children who may be experiencing challenges within their life that without support may act as a barrier to&#160;their ability to fully engage with life and learning.&#160;

Our approach to learning in the Early Years covers a mixture of child-led learning, and adult-directed activities. We allow our children to take some ownership of their own learning through our continuous provision, while also guiding their learning through more formal inputs and activity led by skilled practitioners.

This prepares our children well for our Reception class. In the Early Years, our planning is flexible, and we are often guided by our children's needs and interests. We endeavour to provide opportunities to meet the needs and interests of&nbsp;all&nbsp;of our children through our weekly planning and continuous provision.&nbsp;

Communication and language are at the heart of our Early Years curriculum. Each Early Years class has a designated focus text and nursery rhyme each week. This is accompanied by designated target vocabulary and key questions. We read our focus text every day to encourage in-depth discussions about the text. In addition to this, we read stories or sing with our children regularly each day. This ensures that our children are exposed to a wide range of vocabulary and language structures throughout their learning journey in the Early Years. Our highly skilled practitioners also extend and develop our children's language and communication through daily high-quality interactions.&nbsp;

School Uniform in nursery is optional - however a lot of our parents choose to dress their child in uniform when starting nursery. Our school logo uniform is supplied through Keywear in Truro (1 Church Walk, TR1 1JH). - White or light blue polo shirt - Navy blue school logo sweatshirt or cardigan - Grey trousers, shorts, skirt or pinafore dress - Grey or navy socks or tights - Black smart school shoes (no open toe sandals) - In the summer term, a navy blue check summer dress may be worn. We recommend that children wear school shoes with a velcro fastening, to encourage independence when changing into wellington boots for outside play. Your child will also need their book bag every day. These will be supplied at the start of the year. If your child brings a rucksack to school, please ensure that they also bring their book bag each day.

Tapestry is an easy-to-use and secure online learning journal that helps staff and families across Aspire academies celebrate their children’s learning and development both at school and home. Tapestry facilitates this by enabling a personal journal that builds over time. Photographs, videos and notes of special moments will be made available regularly to you via your iPhone or Android App. More details on how to activate your Tapestry account will be shared once your child starts.

Continuous provision refers to the resources which are consistently on offer throughout the year in our Early Years classroom. These resources are carefully planned to meet the learning needs and interests of our pupils. Our children have access to high quality, well organised resources which provide them with opportunities to revisit and extend their learning. We regularly add enhancements and provocations to our continuous provision, which act as a stimulus for new learning and ideas.&nbsp;

Some of our nursery children are entitled to a free school meal every day, which can be applied for. Each day, we have a choice of two hot meals, as well as hot tomato pasta, or a jacket potato. Parents make meal selections for their child online. You will receive more information about how this works before starting school. If you would prefer to provide your child with a packed lunch, please provide this in a clearly labelled lunch box. Please ensure that packed lunches are healthy and balanced.

Social Media, School Comms &#38; Payments

Our philosophy at Truro Learning Academy is 'Aspire to Achieve.' We embed this through everything we do throughout Nursery and Reception. We encourage and support our children to be engaged, motivated, and resilient learners.

Truro Learning Academy has six core values: Aspiration, Kindness, Resilience, Reliability, Empathy and Integrity. We also expect our pupils to 'Be Kind, Be Safe, and Be Ready to Learn.' 

Our classroom opens at 8:45 for the AM session and 12:15 for the PM session. Our children have a range engaging tabletop activities available to enjoy as soon as they arrive, and also have access to all areas of the continuous provision. Please be as prompt as possible to your session, as late arrivals can be unsettling both for your child and the rest of the class. Our Nursery session then focuses on our good morning/ afternoon routine followed by our focus text. We then move onto phonological awareness or phonics as the children develop. The children then continue to access the continuous provision as they are called for their 'Café' snack. After this we focus on our weekly Math's topic, before accessing the outdoor areas. Children then enjoy a story and rhymes before getting ready to go home. The AM session finishes at 11:45 and the PM sessions finishes at 3:15. Please let us know as soon as possible if you are running late for pick up, as children can become upset if they are not picked up on time. Please note: For the safety of your child, we must know who is picking them up. If you cannot collect your child yourself, please let either Kim Coon, Sarah Mills, Danielle Fugler or Mrs. Morgan in the office know who is coming to collect. We are not able to let children go home with someone unless you have authorised us to do so. Please let us know before your child starts nursery if they have any allergies or dietary requirements which we need to be aware of. Please ensure that your child has a water bottle with them each day. Children learn best when they are hydrated! Children have access to their water bottles throughout the day. All day sessions are available to 3 year old's and this includes lunch time. Lunch is between 11:40am and 12:15pm.

Every academy within the Aspire Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. &#160; We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection Policy. &#160; Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.
