Carranza's early life
Venustiano Carranza was born on December 29, 1859 in Cuarto Ciénegas, Coahuila. He was born into a family apart of the upper middle class. Carranza attended the National Preparatory School located in Mexico City. He later went on to attend the National School of Medicine. After he finished his education, Carranza decided to go back home to help his family.
His political career
After arriving back home, Carranza became interested in politics. This was around the time when Porforio Diaz was in power. Carranza served as municipal president of his birthplace, as well as a local deputy. He then went on to be in the senate of Mexico. During the Mexican Revolution, he became the president of Mexico for around 4 years from 1917 to 1921.
Carranza in the Mexican Revolution
The Mexican Revolution lasted from 1910 to 1920. This revolution started because people wanted to overthrow Porforio Diaz. He was pretty much a Dictator, and was in power for 34 years. The first major person to rebel against him was Francisco Madero. Carranza supported Madero. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to keep up woth the promises he made before his presidency. As a result, Madero was killed in 1913. This was when Victoriano Huerta came into power. He brought back the dictatorship that was supposed to end with Diaz.
Around this time, Carranza and other leaders of the Mexican Revolution teamed up. They fought against Huerta and forced him to resign in 1914. But, they started to turn against each other and fought amongst themselves. They spread into two groups, one of them being the constitutionalists. Carranza was the leader of this group. He soon called for the election of deputies, which elected a group of people to join a part of the congress of Mexico. This led to the creation of the Constitution of 1917.
The Constitution of 1917
The Constitution of 1917 was the founding document of the new Mexican Nation. It was created by Venustiano Carranza. It had various articles that covered things like human rights, citizenship, and more. The articles reflected the people's experience in the Revolution. It showed what the government in Mexico would look like from there on. After writing this, Carranza became president.
