Position
Croatia is a Central European and Mediterranean country, and is geographically located in the southern part of Central Europe and in the northern part of the Mediterranean. We rank Croatia among the medium-sized European countries and the capital is Zagreb, which is the political, cultural, scientific and economic center of the Republic of Croatia.
Culture
Culture in Croatia has its roots in the long history of Croatia - Croats have inhabited these areas for fourteen centuries, but there are significant remnants of other, older peoples who lived in these areas. Due to its geographical position, Croatia has a mixture of different cultures, western and eastern, but also part of Central and Mediterranean Europe. The Illyrian movement was the most important period of national cultural history, and the 19th century was crucial for the Croatian language, and in the development of Croatian art and culture. Also, one of the most famous Croatian cultures is the Vučedol culture, named after the place Vučedol, where the remains of a large settlement of the Copper Age are located.
The most famous Croatian cultural contribution to the rest of world culture was the invention of the necktie.
