MATH MINDSET
These are the essential math mindset ideals in my classroom:

Anyone can do mathematics!
Have a positive attitude toward math.
Families should talk positively about math.
Take risks and persist through problems.
Attempt all strategies and techniques.

MATH IS ALL AROUND US!
Math is used in endless aspects of the real world.
My goal is to use many strategies and techniques in my classroom to foster a love for math in all of my students!

NEW MATH
Research shows that new math strategies lead to conceptual understanding. They will be able to solve increasingly difficult problems without being shown a direct example beforehand.
Examples: open-number lines, the box method, number bonds, arrays, and decomposing.
We will work toward using the traditional algorithm!

A TYPICAL DAY
Students discover their own techniques and sense of math.
Mathematical freedom = learners who are flexible and able to solve challenging problems on their own.

Math Talk:
the process of having students explain and justify their answers as a part of their daily classroom activities.
- Think about answers
- More efficient ways to solve problems
- Compare answers

STRATEGIES
I will start my math lessons by encouraging students to engage in different math tasks.
Examples: Estimation 180, Splat, Same or Different, Which One Doesn't Belong, Esti-Mysteries, and more!
