Remote LearningPoetry Anthology
by Year 5
In their online English lessons this half term, Year 5 have been learning about poetry. They were inspired by two poems in particular: 'In the Tree's Defence' by A F Harrold and 'I'm An Orchestra' by Laura Mucha.
Year 5 learnt about rhyming couplets to create their own poem defending something they love in the style of A F Harrold.
They also learnt about metaphor and created a poem, in the style of Laura Mucha, that compared their own feelings and emotions to something else.
The pupils enjoyed talking about the different emotions they have and how they could describe these with comparisons to other things, such as ice cream or the weather.
This anthology contains at least one poem from each child in Year 5, and is created entirely by the children to celebrate their achievements in their online lessons.
Each pupil decorated their own pages of the anthology and chose pictures and a layout that they thought illustrated their poem best.

They sometimes make a lot of poo.
They make you happy when they squeak,
And love to make a little creek.
They like to have a little mood,
To cheer them up you give them food.
They normally make a lot of trouble,
So they make a noise like a bubble.
They are as sensitive as a queen,
So you really need to keep them clean.
They can’t have a lot of fruit,
So you can always keep them really cute.
You need to handle them twice a day,
To keep them looking their normal way.
