WELCOME AND VISION
Alexandra Palace and Newstead Wood School coordinate and manage the London Science Learning
Partnership (SLP), which provides quality, subject specific continuous professional development
(CPD) for primary, secondary and further education in the area. We are part of a network of SLPs and other support for schools that is managed by STEM Learning.
Our vision
Our vision is to achieve a world-leading STEM education for all young people across London. We are dedicated to raising young people's engagement and achievement in STEM subjects and careers.
Implementation
We combine local expertise in teaching and learning in science, facilitating CPD, and providing school-to-school support. We offer quality, high impact science CPD through a range of full day or twilight sessions. We also work with schools on an individual basis to provide bespoke support to meet the differing needs of schools across the area.

Developing Science in KS2

If you teach KS2, this course will give you the know-how to plan a successful curriculum, help you feel more confident in your science knowledge, and teach you how to get those outstanding results, whilst meeting the needs of each pupil and your school. You will explore ways of bringing the KS2 curriculum to life through practical lessons and have the opportunity to bring your own ideas to try out and discuss in a safe, supportive environment.
Outcomes
You will be able to:
• develop an understanding of what excellence looks like in lower KS2 science
• identify practical approaches to teaching subject specific content in lower KS2 science
• understand progression in primary science and where lower KS2 fits

A chance to discuss and reflect on key points from the network meeting. Participants unable to attend the previous session will be able to catch up on what was covered.
You will discuss different strategies you have used on approaching planning and delivery for effective learning for children. You will feedback on ways you have tried regarding bringing KS1 experience to life through practical ideas and discussion tasks.

Collecting, analysing and presenting data in primary science requires and provides opportunity for the use and development of mathematical skills.
Throughout this course, you will identify how to maximise your pupils' opportunities to develop their numeracy skills and improve attainment in science by planning lessons in which children effectively handle data. You will be provided with skills and tools to support the implementation of developing mathematics skills in your science lessons.
Outcomes
You will be able to:
• plan science activities that develop mathematical skills

Tinkering or trying things out can be play based, exploration when learning about something. It also provides a basis for making and exploring, often through trial and improvement.
This course is an introduction to using tinkering as an approach to learning in science, computing and D&T and to build resilience in pupils at primary level.
