Summary
Effective strategies which embrace working scientifically outside the classroom enhance enquiry skills. You will be able to build on, and extend, children’s abilities by applying different approaches to plan and resource rich learning opportunities.

• implement a wide range of strategies to develop the teaching and learning of biology, chemistry and physics beyond the classroom
• demonstrate an increased confidence in planning, resourcing rich experiences to develop working scientifically in different environments

Summary
Evidence shows that effective Assessment for Learning (AfL) leads to raised attainment. Now that formal recording of levels has been removed, you need to be secure in your understanding of how to make judgements about children's achievements and progress.
Throughout the course we will identify how you can integrate and embed assessment practices into your science teaching.

Outcomes
You will be able to:
• use a range of AfL strategies effectively to promote children’s learning
• acquire a deeper understanding of progression
• make confident and reliable teacher assessment of learning in science and identify children’s next steps

Building on the theme of the implementation of the long-term curriculum map for science in the classroom from the first meeting of this term, this meeting will focus on: how subject leaders can monitor the implementation of the long-term curriculum map and the quality of teaching; how subject leaders can address, through CPD, any areas that require development that are identified as a result of monitoring; strategies for ensuring that children have sufficient opportunity to retrieve prior learning.

Early career primary science network

At the start of your career it can be difficult to know where to turn to for help. These Early Career networks offer like-minded teachers the opportunity to share their successes and offer support. Guided by CPD and science consultant Bob Cooper you will be kept abreast of the latest developments in teaching and learning strategies. You will be guided through your first years to ensure you deliver excellent and inspiring lessons.

Outcomes
You will be able to:
• demonstrate the ability to use a wider range of approaches to teaching and learning and classroom organisation
• apply an extended range of Assessment for Learning (AfL) strategies to promote students’ learning in science
• integrate more opportunities for the teaching of Working Scientifically in a range of contexts
• draw on the experience of others to reflect upon and develop your own practice
• identify opportunities for your own Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to support a rewarding and successful teaching career
