BEFORE I LEFT

Before we embarked on the trip to Ottawa I was asked to find a photos that represents Canadas role in World War 1. I chose these because what I’ve noticed is that Canada stuck together. The brave men (and female nurses) who were a part of WWI were a team, and helped each other even if that meant they lost there own life. Selflessness was prevalent among all Canadians involved in WWI.

DAY ONE - APRIL 8

Adlih, Isabelle and I holding hands because we don’t like turbulence!

Melika, Daniel, Lucas, Logan, Maggie, Adlih and I all decided to play monopoly to kill some time as there were no planned activities. I almost won but Melika came out of no where and brutally made me bankrupt.

Here is a drawing I drew that shows the main lobby at the Terry Fox centre. I drew this because it was where I made my first new friends, and bonded with the current PLP people. Overall this space is just somewhere where it always felt welcome to sit in and talk to random people.

Fun fact: They have a big rainbow tarp thing that me and my friends used frequently. It reminded us of kindergarten and was a lot of fun!

DAY TWO - APRIL 9

On the left is my favourite picture from today. Its a picture of the National War Memorial located near Parliment. It was originally built to commemorate Canada's sacrifice in the First World War (1914–18). It now honours all of Canada's war dead. To symbolize the sacrifices made from war, there are two bronze figures emerging through the great arch at the top. Overhead, two figures symbolize peace and freedom. When the Prime Minister Mackenzie King proposed the idea of this national memorial the opposition supported the idea but criticized the cost. Mackenzie King replied with:

DAY 3 - APRIL 10

Because the theme of this trip was Vimy Ridge I’m going to take this opportunity to show this painting of the Vimy Ridge Memorial in France. I saw this painting in the War Museum in Ottawa. This was the most insane Museum I’ve been to and taught me about every single war Canada was a part of. It really opened up my eyes and educated me.

Anyways, back to the painting. Like I said before, its the memorial of Vimy Ridge in France. It was built in 1938 and is there to remind us of the victory at a terrible cost, with more than 10,000 killed and wounded. I think this painting was very well made and I wanted to share it in this book.

Throughout learning about WWI, you ask your self this question: Would I join WWI if I was alive during it? Asking myself this... Would I? Probably not. 1) If I was a women during WWI I would have the choices of being a Nursing Sister, working in a factory, or being a mom and taking care of kids on my own. 2) WWI scares me... Extremely. Most people who went into WWI weren’t as educated as people are now on what they were getting themselves into. They didn’t know they could be messed up long term caused by PSTD or losing a body part. So..... my answer is no.

A Canadian vehicle that was attacked by Serbian Troops in Croatia in 1994. We met a woman that knew the man that was shot in this attack.

Hitlers car from 1933. It is a black armoured Mercedes Benz Limousine which hitler used ass a parade car. It was captured by American troops in 1945 and brought it to Canada a few years later.

DAY 4 - APRIL 11

For this page I am going to talk about the topic of young men going into war, and feeling pressured to by the Government. The goal for this is to share 3 different points of view on this topic, and to discuss.

POV 1, a very old way of thinking that I don’t agree with: Men should be forced to go to war to fight for our country. We need all men strong or not strong, tall or short, fit or not fit, old or young. All men, its there job. The women can stay home and take care of the kids.

POV 2, a reasonable way to think: Men should be able to stay home if they want. There shouldn’t be pressure as that can cause lots of damage. No one should feel pressured to fight and kill people.

POV 3: Men shouldn’t fight for there country ever even if they want to. Nor should women. War is pointless and too many people die.
