Gergana:&nbsp; (roaring) Yes! But I forgot my bow and arrows. I had to kill this elephant with my bare hands. Lilly:&nbsp; As Shadusa watched in terror, Master Man built a huge fire in the fireplace, roasted the elephant, and devoured every bit of it but the bones. Nellina:&nbsp; Suddenly he stopped and sniffed. Gergana:&nbsp; (sniffs loudly) Wife! I smell a man! Kate:&nbsp; Oh, there’s no man here now. One passed by while you were gone. That must be what you smell. Gergana:&nbsp; Too bad! He would have been tasty. Lilly:&nbsp; Then he rolled over on the ground, and before long the leaves trembled from his snores. In history we have widely seen the consequences of a war, of an act of violence against someone … We are returning to 1930s. We see politicians that think they have superpowers. I am young, I am 13 years old, my words are only those of an eighth grade student. If you stop for a moment you will understand that what I am saying is not only a reflection but it is a sad and real truth that can never turn into a lie if there is no mutual cooperation. Unfortunately, the priority seems to be doing war, a hellish game that consumes us as the worst of the slot machines; it is something that you will hardly get back from. This is what I wrote about the war: We did not expect this war, especially after this pandemic that has closed us at home for almost a year and honestly I do not want to live another year or even more in a state of emergency due to a war. After all the tragical events of the past in history we did not learn anything? I believe that Putin is just a selfish man who thinks only of his own goals and his own life and has no mercy for all Ukrainians who are forced to escape from their country and for those who have already died on the first days of the bombing. It is very bad for boys, men, girls, women and especially children, who dream of a better world and instead they are forced to hear horrible and terrifying news, Let’s think about people who live in another part or the world and have relatives in Ukraine and how worried are they about their family and friends. It is not expected that after so many conflicts someone still wants war as an instrument of conquest or for personal purposes, also because being in the 21st century our minds should be more open and there should be no more forms of discrimination, wars and conflicts. among politicians who should give us a good example rather than a bad one. Domenico: Well, listen: War strikes innocent people only for the desire of power and wealth of the politicians. This thing makes me shiver. Soldiers are forced to put their lives at risk for them. The only war to be done is PEACE where no weapons or bombs are allowed, but people who help others. The term "war" should be abolished, in my opinion, because it causes terror not only in those who have experienced it, but also in those who have only studied it in books. "MASTER MAN" Nellina:&nbsp; Once there was a man who was strong. Lilly:&nbsp; When he gathered firewood, he hauled twice as much as anyone else in the village. When he hunted, he carried home two antelopes at once. Nellina:&nbsp; This man’s name was Shadusa, and his wife was named Shettu. One day he said to her, Ivan :&nbsp; (showing his muscles) Just look at these muscles. I must be the strongest man in the world. From now on, just call me Master Man. Nellina :&nbsp; But Shettu said, Ivana:&nbsp; Quit your foolish boasting. No matter how strong you are, there will always be someone stronger. And watch out, or someday you may meet him. Nellina:&nbsp; The two women pulled together, but still the bucket would not budge. Kate:&nbsp; Wait a moment. Lilly:&nbsp; . . . said the woman. She untied her baby and set him on the ground.

I will do my best to protect it and make it bigger and bigger. Don’t worry anymore!” The tree gets bigger and bigger and everyone’s happy. There is peace now. The tree blossoms and is so beautiful! But soon, war breaks out again. People kill each other and there is fire and bombing everywhere. The tree of peace is starting to lose its leaves and its branches are broken. Look! Children from all over the world are coming. They want to protect the tree of peace! They step forward and shout: Stop the war! Don’t kill each other! We want peace! Friendship! Love! Happiness! But do what you want BABY:&nbsp; (makes baby noises) Lilly:&nbsp; So Shadusa followed the woman back to her compound. Inside the fenced yard was a gigantic fireplace, and beside it was a pile of huge bones. Ivan: &nbsp; What’s all this? Kate: &nbsp;Well, you see, our house is so small that my husband must come out here to eat his elephants. Nellina:&nbsp; Just then they heard a great Gergana:&nbsp; ROAR! Ivan: covers his ears and begins to tremble Lilly:&nbsp; . . . so loud that Shadusa had to cover his ears. Then the ground began to shake, till Shadusa could hardly stand. Ivan:&nbsp; (shaking) What’s that?! Kate:&nbsp; (shaking, but in a calm voice) That’s Master Man. Ivan:&nbsp; (still shaking): Oh, no! You weren’t fooling! I’ve got to get out of here! Kate:&nbsp; (shaking) It’s too late now. But let me hide you. Lilly:&nbsp; By the fence were some large clay pots, each as tall as a man, for storing grain. She helped him climb into one, then set the lid in place. Nellina:&nbsp; Shadusa raised the lid a crack to peek out.

Bob Dylan wonders how many paths a man must travel before he can be considered a "man with his own rights" and with his own dignity. Morena The author wonders how long it will take before peace, freedom and respect for man reign in the world, but his questions remain unanswered. The best way to answer all of these questions is to ask them. Let's try to answer the questions of the song… which answer blows in the wind for us. Manuel: For me the answer that flies in the wind is that of peace and freedom, which even today in 2022, we are unable to have due to the war between Russia and Ukraine which inevitably affects the whole world economically but above all at the level of human lives, annihilating years and years of struggles for peace and freedom. Lara: In the chorus, he addresses the audience in a confidential tone calling them "my friend" and sees that the answer is blowing in the wind and wants to make clear that some values and intentions are like objects that fly, swept by the wind and we must chase them, in this case peace. We have to fight and chase peace to keep it on Earth and do not let it fly away. Manuel: In my opinion, the answer that blows in the wind is peace and loving each other because too many devastating wars have been done in the past and in any case they continue to exist; the current war between Russia and Ukraine is an example of this, but like this also that in Israel and Syria which is destroying everything. Emilio: Dear friends today we can’t talk about lighter topics and entertain people with some interviews about music and free time activities. We must give voice to our indignation towards the war which unfortunately in the twenty-first century rather than being a taboo hangs over the lives of men spreading death and destruction. So I have reflected all night on the atrocity of war and I have decided to dedicate this special episode to this topic and try to help to restore peace in the world. Let's start with you, my friends Noemi and Angela: do you want to share your heartfelt reflections that you both wrote during the first days of the Russian attack on Ukraine? Noemi and Angela (together): Yes, of course. It is a good idea. Emilio: Let’s listen your point of view first, Noemi. Noemi: Our Italian teacher told us to write what is war for us. I wrote this. There are a lot of words that describe war: it is usually defined as "conflict" or "struggle". In addition, concepts related to fear, panic and anxiety are attributed to it. I believe that war determines a state of perennial anguish, because the fear of being able to die at any moment becomes concrete under the bombs. I will start saying that I don't know anything about Geopolitics but I want to illustrate my thoughts in the clearest and most concise way possible. In the last weeks the world has been thrown in an incredible derangement so strong that we have forgotten COVID-19 which had invaded our minds for about 2 years. I am talking about the war, a word that takes us inside a trench of an armed conflict motivated by more or less questionable reasons but still a struggle that uses violence. I ask of you in a very simple way to stop the war. Please stop the war: it is a very small gesture that can save millions of lives. Please do not make things worse than now, we are on the verge of a third world conflict which would be the last step in the history of mankind. It will lead to the destruction of everything and everyone without having solved anything. I ask you, o powerful people on the Earth, please put an end to this terrible bloodshed. Please put my words into your hearts and put an end to this conflict, to this bloodshed and also to the sufferings that we are experiencing in our hearts and in our homes indirectly, too. "WAR AND PEACE" Lara: Hi, guys. Did you watch the news yesterday? I heard about the war between Russia and Ucraina. Gaia: Yes, I heard it on TV. It's terrible. Morena: I only heard some news on the radio. I want to have more information. It is impossible that in 2022 a war can broke out. Manuel: At school we learnt about Gandhi, Martin Luther King and peace revolts. We learnt that all wars in the past took only blood, death, desolation, ruin and at school teachers always teach us that the mistakes of the past mustn't be repeated in the future. Gaia: Yes, this year we have listened to a lot of peace and war songs at school. Italian and English songs. My dad loves "Blowing to the wind" by Bob Dylan. Do you know it? Lara: I have never heard it. What does it speak about? Morena: Look. I have done some researches on the web. It is a beautiful sad song about the horrors of the war and civil rights. (prende fogli con commenti) Lara: let's have a look together. Gaia: let's listen to the song, too. Manuel: This song was written by Bob Dylan, an American singer and songwriter. He wanted to bring to the world a message of peace during the period in which the United States were engaged in the conflict with Vietnam. Gaia: We have always wondered why people take up arms against another people, annihilating freedom and human dignity. The answer inevitably falls on economic interests and the thirst for power without thinking about human life. Morena: so the text "Blowin 'in the wind" which speaks of the need for a position on war is actual. Lara: Yes, it is. Ukraine is having continuous and cruel bombardments by the Russian armies.

Lilly:&nbsp; As Shadusa watched, the two men struggled to their feet, still clutching one another. Then each gave a mighty leap, and together they rose into the air. Nellina:&nbsp; Higher and higher they went, till they passed through a cloud and out of sight. Ivan:&nbsp; (looks up with a surprise) Lilly:&nbsp; Shadusa waited and waited, but the men never came back down. At last he climbed carefully from the tree, then ran and ran and never stopped till he got home safe&nbsp; Nellina:&nbsp; And he never called himself Master Man again. Ivan:&nbsp; (a loud sigh of relief) Lilly:&nbsp; As for those other two, they’re still in the clouds, where they battle on to this day. Nellina:&nbsp; Of course, they rest whenever they’re both worn out. Lilly:&nbsp; But sooner or later they start up again, and what a noise they make! Gergana:&nbsp; ROAR! Marina:&nbsp; GRRRRR!
