World War 2 was a game changing battle, between the Allies and the Axis powers. Over 70 million people died during World War 2, (that's more than the entire population of the U.K!) In World War 2, some of the most dangerous weapons were created. If you would like to know more about World War 2, read on to find out.
The trip to war
On the first of September 1939, Germany invaded Poland. World War 2 had lots of guns and machines. Hitler was the leader of the Nazi party and became a powerful dictator. The war was also abbreviated as WW2. At the start of the war, over 900 ships participated in the evacuation at Dunkirk, consisting mostly of fishing and pleasure boats, as well as some larger ships and navy ships also taking part. It must have been a scary time!
Which countries were involved?

Across the world, a large amount of countries were involved in the war; they were split into two sides - the Allies and the Axis. But, some countries declared them selves to be 'neutral' (which meant they didn't support either side, and were not involved in the fight).

Germany, Japan and Italy
Britain, France, Soviet Union, U.S, U.K, Poland and many more
In a wartime situation, a good leader is crucial to countries and cities to help them defend themselves.

Winston Churchill was one of the greatest leaders in the 20th century. He led colonies to victory, and helped the U.K stand strong; he may not have been wonderful in World War 1, but he was an inspiration in World War 2. His speeches were inspiring-he would fight if he was the last one standing. Shortly after he became prime minister, the Germans invaded France, Belgium and Poland. He also helped the Russians (Soviet Union), and the U.S. Although Winston did not like Josef Stalin, he still helped him fight Hitler.

ADOLF HITLER
Hitler was undoubtedly a very accomplished speech maker. Furthermore, if there was any disagreement with his policy or views ,people would be imprisoned, tortured or executed even if they were an ordinary German.
Josef Stalin, became leader of, the Soviet Union after the founder of the Soviet Union, Vladimir Lenin, died in 1924 . As a horrific leader, he was responsible for the deaths of over 20 million of his very own people . He had a great deal of hate, towards Hitler, so therefore he led the Russian army to fight bravely, despite all of their terrible conditions.
