World War 2- do you know anything about it? Did you know that World War Two was one of the most destructive conflicts in history? World War 2 started in September 1939, and ended in August 1945. Changing the face of history, there were many horrendous acts of brutality( the Holocaust).
A road to a dangerous war
World War II started when Hitler wanted more land and he wanted to take revenge from World War 1. In 1933, Adolf Hitler was the leader of the Germans (which meant he could do what ever he wanted to win the world war!) Above all, he began expanding Germany's territory by invading countries including Poland. Hitler wanted to invade the rest of the world to get revenge for WW1.
Who was involved?
Across the world,the majority of major countries became involved in the conflict.They were split into two sides:the Allies and the Axis forces,depending whether a country supported Germany,or disagreed with Germany. Some countries declared themselves to be 'neutral' (which meant they did not support either side and were not prepared to fight).

Powerful war time leaders
During a war, it is crucial you have a strong leader or you will be taken over.
The leader of Germany( a dictator) and the Nazi party was Adolf Hitler. He had been a soldier in WW1. Hitler was very good at speeches and persuading people . He was very evil, then he started killing and imprisoning people if they didn't listen to what he said. He would kill them, or take them to the concentration camps.
Winston Churchill was the British Prime Minister. He was one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century. He was very strong and made his British soldiers believe in themselves, by saying some very inspirational quotes, such as...

Josef Stalin became leader of the Soviet Union. Stalin was a very brutal person. He was responsible for over 20 million deaths! He hated Hitler, so he made the Russian army fight him.
President Franklin D Roosevelt was most known for leading United States and assisting the Allied powers against the Axis powers of Germany and Japan during World War Two. He did not like Hitler at all! He wanted to defeat Germany, Japan and Italy. Did you know on December 7th, 1941 Japan bombed the U.S? This meant Amarica also joined the war!
It was with great sadness that so many people died during this tragic time. You should now know more about WW2.
