ANCIENT CHAMORUS

Talayas, or fishing nets were used to catch fish for eating.

The lusong or mortar and pestle was carved out of limestone. It was used to grind medicine.

They carved sling-stones <br/>from limestone.

The ancient Chamorus lived by the ocean.<br/>They used their canoes, the sakman for traveling to different islands and for fishing.&nbsp;

A higam with an adze attached was used for carving canoes out of breadfruit trees.

To this day, when walking along the beach, sometimes one might find some pottery pieces, a sling stone, or maybe even an adze.&nbsp;

Sling-stones were used for hunting and territorial conflicts.

An adze made out of clam shell was a tool used to carve jewelry and vessels out of wood.
