Acknowledgements

These poems were created during a particular moment in the pandemic and an unusual configuration for our unique, multi-sited school. All of the writers were experiencing detention in various boroughs of New York City.

We would like to thank our co-principals, Ms. Baxter-Sweet, Mr. Carter, and Mr. Rashid for their support of this project.

A huge thank you to the teachers who expressed their enthusiasm and shared the poetry kits with students: Ms. Flood, Mr. Glanville, Ms. Latham, Ms. King, Ms. Latham, Mr. Lauf, Ms. Martin, and Ms. Salmeron. We appreciate you.

Thank you to the entirety of faculty, staff, ACS coworkers, house leadership and line staff--we appreciate every single one of you doing the hard work in front of you to care for and sustain our students and one another in this difficult time. We see you too and we loved reading your poems. Yes, we can try to get another publication together in the near future to share your voices as well.

Special thanks to DeAndrea Sabatos, Business Manager at Passages Academy, who personally delivered some of the kits, and to Peter Friedman, Children's Village; Ms. Flood and Mr. Carter, Passages Academy, Ms. Brown of SCO, and Ms. Aiyana Allman-Wooten, ACS, for your kind assistance with getting the kits into students' hands in every part of our expansive school community.

Extra special thanks to the folks at Magnetic Poetry in Minneapolis for making the kits affordable and handling the shipping challenges with great spirit, and to Literacy for Incarcerated Teens for their extraordinary encouragement and generous funding that enabled us to purchase the kits.
