One difficulty that the booby faces is the arrival, every two or seven years, of the El Niño phenomenon, which causes the waters to heat up and other climatic changes such as floods and strong droughts to occur. The presence of warm waters with out the nutrients that come from Antarctic waters decreases the bird population.
