Summer edition of our school newspaper

INTERNATIONAL DAY 2023

Last Friday, the 2nd of June marked the 3rd annual International Day celebration of the Eslj Community.

The event commenced with a colorful parade of nations as students walked and waved their flags proudly to a delighted crowd of parents and teachers.

A series of entertaining presentations added to the festivities. However, we could all agree that beyond the scrumptious banquet of international cuisine which literally left everyone with a pleasant taste in their mouths, it was the sense of belonging amidst diversity which gave the feeling of warmth in our hearts.

A message from one grandmother resonated, "I was in tears seeing students coming from so many different countries together in one school."

May we always be advocates of the true meaning of being international, which is a mindset rooted from respect and understanding, and in Eslj, "we're all in this together."

School news and affairs

THE EUROPEAN SCHOOL - A BRIDGE BETWEEN NATIONAL IDENTITY AND EUROPEAN CITIZENSHIP

On Thursday 25 May 2023, we organised an international event titled "The European School – a Bridge Between National Identity and European Citizenship".

We hosted the State Secretary of MVI, Dr. Boris Černilc, Dr. Miro Cerar, Dr. Maja Zalaznik, ACER representative, Dr. Borissova, Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Slovenia, Dr. Jug Jerše, Deputy Secretary General of the European Schools, Mr. Bordoy Verchili, Director of the European School Munich, Mr. Hrovath and many others.

More than eighty participants attended the event.

We are very excited about our success and obvious public support expressed for #ESLj.

CoSEEA

As our school had entered the ranks of the CoSEEA, our students have attended the organisation’s meeting in the city of The Hague in the Netherlands.

CoSEEA is an organisation of student councils of the European school that was created for students to cooperate on school events, discuss possible changes and issues.

Out of 16 schools that are members of CoSEEA 13 participated in person and 2 online.

Our students have loved the friendly, welcoming and cooperative spirit and mindset of the representatives.

Winter edition of our school newspaper

eTWINNING PROJECT IN HARMONY

P3, P4 and P5 pupils have continued with their international work by joining forces with pupils from Italy, Wales, Norway, and Latvia in eTwinning project In Harmony.

In January two Italian schools prepared a list of activities for all partner schools. Their topic was Rare and protected animals.

Our P3 pupils and teachers designed ID cards of protected animals in Slovenia. They provided descriptions of these animals and their surroundings. Our P4E students created interesting posters and games about the animals. They invited P3 and P5 students to play and listen to their presentations. Our P5 pupils and their L1 teacher Mrs. Christine designed a beautiful poster in German language about indigenous animals in Slovenia.

We shared our work on international board and followed the posts of partner schools. We hope we will be able to meet with them online before the end of this school year.

Around the world

LAKE BOHINJ

Our P1 and P2 students took a trip to Lake Bohinj last week, and spent a couple of days at Pod Voglom hostel where they took part in the school in nature programme. After getting acquainted with their new lodgings, the students took a walk into nearby Ribičev Laz, before returning to the hostel to take part in various sporting activities such as canoeing on lake Bohinj, rock climbing, and biking.

All in all, it was a fabulous few days spent in a spectacular setting, that was very well hosted by the kind and courteous staff of Pod Voglom hostel. We are sure the students will remember their wonderful experience there for a long time to come.

On day two, the weather held up quite well despite the forecast of rain, and the students enjoyed a panoramic boat ride around the lake, before taking part in a guided tour of Zlatarog's fairytale trail, where they learned about the many myths and legends of the Bohinj lake area. The students then returned to the hostel for some well earned rest, before packing up to return home the following morning.
