Jamaican American Celebrations & Traditions
by Mrs. Jumpp
During holidays, and all special occasions, my family and I cook traditional American foods (sometimes with a hint of Jamaican spices, like my husband's famous jerk turkey), and add some traditional Jamaican foods like curried goat and sweet potato pudding. Below, I've shared the authentic recipes of two of my favorites that MUST be on our table at every celebration.

Singing & Dancing: After Thanksgiving dinner, we all sing while our friend plays his guitar. Sometimes, we have a dance off contest, dancing to Jamaican Ska which is the precursor to (came before) Reggae.
Feeding the Homeless: Every month for over 12 years, we cook and/ or serve dinner to 40 - 150 homeless citizens. We make Thanksgiving thru MLK Day extra special by decorating and packing goodie bags of candies. My parents and grandparents fed those in need in Jamaica.
Mexican American Celebrations

During the holiday season, my family and I get together to have big celebrations and feasts! Each of my family members makes their favorite dish. Some of these dishes are traditional Mexican meals such as barbacoa de chivo (goat barbecue), pernil (roast pork), and tacos de birria with birria consome (birria tacos and soup).
