The Earth is Moving

All three boundaries cause earthquakes, Which is hardly fun!

And when an earthquake wakes, You had better not run!

Practice with your family, And pack an earthquake kit to use.

Always have water bottles, flashlights, blankets; And check expiry dates on all canned foods.

Here are some important supplies, That you should keep near.

It may be a few days, Before you are given the ”all clear!”

Marianas trench, the most famous one. It’s not just a band; it’s a Rift Valley too.

It is found in a divergent boundary. You probably won’t see it though. Oh, Boo Hoo!

The molten rock whirls and twirls, Moving the plates,

Then, You’ve got an earthquake.

We always hope the “Big One” never comes, But you want to be prepared.

You’ve learned lots about earthquakes. This information should be shared!

It is rough between the two, They rub each others’ wall.

Each one grinds down the other, Causing chaos for us all.

This motion produces A destructive drop in the land.

Shaking cities and towns, Or creating waves so big nothing can stand.

I’m talking about transform boundaries, Where the plates slide side-by-side.

But when the plates move together, They never really glide.

In North Vancouver, we live On a subduction zone

Sometimes two plates meet, Then move apart.

Rift valleys are made, When the moving starts.

The third type of boundary, Will bring you to a halt.

The most famous of its’ kind, Called the San Andreas Fault.

Go find a sturdy table, Away from shelves and windows,

Crouch underneath it, Don’t move until you get more info!

Earthquakes in San Francisco, Have been caused by these plates.

Homes and buildings shook for minutes, And a major baseball game had to wait!

The plates move together, Sliding over and under each other.

Sooner or later, The land mass will crack.

The top plate gets stuck, On a landmass, preventing the smother.

Causing the plate to flick out, And bounce back.

The earth has been moving since the start of time.

And it won’t stop til time ends its’ climb.
