History of the Commandant Birot
Roger BIROT
The construction of Commandant Birot began on March, the twenty-third of 1981. It is named after Roger BIROT. He was the commandant of the Mimosa Corvette, a French warship, which was sunk by a German submarine on June, the ninth of 1942. Commandant Birot was launched on March, the twenty-second of 1982 and armed on March, the fourteenth of 1984.

Roger Birot
● The name of the Commandant Birot is " Roger Birot", born on the 29th of August 1906, he was the son of a general officer. He was a French Navy officer and commanded the first frigate of the Free French Naval Forces. He received the French Légion d'Honneur, the Croix de Guerre, the Resistance Medal, the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire and became a companion of Liberation.

The Commandant Birot is an d'Estienne d'Ovres - class ship. It was launched on the 22nd of May 1982 and was armed on the 14th of March 1984. Its homeport is the naval base of Toulon. The Commandant Birot is a patrol ship, it helps submarines and it has a mission of surveillance.

The main mission of the commandant birot is to patrol across the seas to protect French territory, as well as to ensure the safeguarding of its maritime environnement.
The displacement of the commanndant birot is of 1,100 tons when it is unballasted, or 1,270 tons at full load.
The main weapon is the 100mm CADAM gun turret, then it has four 12.7mm machine guns, as well as four torpedoes in four fixed catapults. Besides, tit has 2 F2 guns.
