ottawa, a trip

Hey, I’m Lauren, and I’m the creator of this book! I’m in grade 9 and in a program called the Performance Learning Program. PLP is project based learning on iPads, and it is also the program that is taking me on all these trips! PLP 9 is such a loving, tight group, an DI am so happy to be a part of it!

This day was the first day we got to go out! We went to the miniature version of the monument in France, in Ottawa. It was very interesting m because we got to see the ceremony that they held. Another cool thing is that in the casket in front of the monument, there was an unknown soldier. The tomb of the unknown soldier is a soldier that the could not figure out who it was, so they make a special tomb for them. 

I chose this painting because I thigh fit was a very cool painting, and had an interesting story behind it! This painting is if a big gas tanker that spilled SO MUCH gas into the water, making it unsafe for all of the animals that lived in there. 

Fun fact: Terry Fox Youth Center has 150 beds!

This is the music we woke up to every morning!

On the first day, nothing was planned. No activities, just breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Melika, Maggie, Luca, Logan, Daniel, Adlih and I decided to play monopoly. Melika won, and I’m still upset about that, but there’s always next time! These people I never really had a full long conversation with, and it was actually really fun to play with them. 

These photos really show how remembering Canada is. It shows how whatever Canada goes through, we will remember it because of the outcome, and what we learned from it. 

This is a drawing of the Friday night dance! At the dance, I hung out with the new friends I made, and it was so much fun. Although we didn’t really dance, we did have lots of fun singing together and having a good time. 

These photos are from the Diefenbunker. The Diefenbunker was completely underground, and was used for emergencies. There were rooms with beads, a large cafeteria, hospital beds, and some rooms with canned food for families. If there ever was an emergency so extreme that they needed to live I. The bunker, life would have been very small and jam packed. They even have vertical stripes on the walls to make the hallways look bigger than they real,t are, especially for the people who are claustrophobic. 

This woman is currently in the army, and she has worked in so many different countries, and have helped many Canadians through so much. One of the cars she used in one of her mission, is actually displayed in The Canadian War Museum.

This is a veteran that was volunteering at the meuseum we were in. We asked him about what he thought about Canada’s role in World War One. He had so much to say, and asked about what our favourite part of the museum. He was such a nice man, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to interview him!

Today was the day we went to parliament. In front of the parliament building, there was a water fountain, with the shield of every province and territory all around the fountain. The first photo is the full fountain, and the one below in the BC shield. It was very interesting to see all fo the

provinces and territories represented on one small fountain. 

This drawing represents how Canada went I to war, and specifically this battle, as separate provinces, and nit yet a proud nation. They came out of war as true Canadians, which I think is the most important part of Canada in World War 1

I know this doesn’t look like much, but this weapon was one of the main weapons they used. This is a bayonet. A bayonet is a big gun, with a sharp knife at the end, incase your opponent is too close to shoot. This idea was very smart actually, instead of having both weapons separate, they made it very convenient to have them all in one place. 

We interviewed this guy from Newfoundland and he told us about what life was like in Newfoundland, and his it’s different from Vancouver.
