A little about Mrs. Sanchez

Hello!
Welcome to 6th grade! I am Mrs.Sanchez. I am beyond excited to embark in the adventure of being your teacher this year!

I am married to my husband Odilon, and we have a four-year-old son, as well as a dog named Remi. When I am not in the classroom I love having dinners with my extended family, trying new recipes, and exercising.

I love teaching because I love the relationships I get to build with you! It brings a smile to my face to be able to provide a place where you and I can make mistakes, learn, and grow together. Let's embark on this 6th grade adventure!

On the first week of school we will create classroom expectations together following the model of:

-Coming to school prepared and ready to learn.
-Participating in class, and being willing to share.
-Being respectful and kind to yourself, and everyone around you.

Students should make every effort to be present. When an absence is unavoidable, students will check their absent folder that will be on their desk, and talk to the teacher about any work missed.

I believe students should be responsible for their actions and prefer to use positive reinforcement whenever I can and use consequences as a learning opportunity for positive growth. Parents will only be contacted if the poor behavior continues or is severe, at that time we will work together to develop a behavior plan. Consequences for unwanted behavior are as follows:

Assignments

I will do my best to send home a basic behavior report every other week with a list of missing assignments and a report on students’ behavior for those weeks. This progress report does need to be signed and returned.

All assignments will be given a due date, typically at the end of the week, and should be turned in ON TIME. Late work will be accepted but may have points reduced.
If assignments are not turned in on time, they will be given a 0 in Skyward until the assignment has been turned in and graded.

Redos on Assignments: Students may redo any assignment they received less than 70% on, if they wish to earn a better grade. The redo must show their work and how they got their new answer, not just the correct answer.
Math Assignment Redos: Students will be asked to redo all math assignments that they score less than 70% on.

Homework

Students will need to read 100 minutes every week. Students may schedule their own reading schedule as long as the 100 minutes are met by the end of the week (7 days). A calendar will be sent home at the beginning of each month to be filled out, and will need to be returned at the end of the month with a parent signature. This will count as part of their independent reading grade.

Fun Friday

On most Fridays, we will have Fun Friday. Where students who are caught up on their assignments will be able to pick from a list of pre-determined activities to participate in.
Students not up to date on assignments, will go to "study hall" where they can have quiet time to work on missing work.

Walk Your Wheels: Per School Policy, students need to be walking their bikes, scooters, skateboards, this includes the heelys. Per office policy, after one warning the student may lose privileges to bring the transportation device to school.

Students are expected to be in line before the 8:55am bell.

Students are expected to line up quietly and to walk quietly when they are coming in and out of the building.
Maintain and be aware of yours and others personal space.

We expect students to be kind and respectful to other students and adults at all times.
Being the oldest in the school 6th graders are often looked at as leaders, we expect them to be good examples.

Students are expected to use classroom technology appropriately, this includes:

Staying on teacher directed websites.

Do not change any computer settings.

Do not remove labels or add personal stickers to the devices.

Keep devices away from liquids, food, paint, or anything else that could potentially damage the device.

Carry the device appropriately.

These should be used for educational purposes only, they should not be used for personal email, chatting, playing video games, etc.

Inappropriate images, videos, cyberbullying could lead to District/school discipline.

Chromebook privileges will be taken away if used for inappropriate usage.

These devices are property of Jordan School District, any broken device will need to be replaced and results in a $250 fine.

These rules apply not only at school but also when taken home to work on school projects.

Phones and Smart Watches: Per the District and School Policy, student phones and electronics are not allowed in an Elementary Schools during the school day.

Phones are not allowed at Recess or in the bathrooms.
If a student needs to call home, they need to use the phones in the front office, they may not use their personal phones to do so.

If a parent requires a child to have a phone, the phone must stay off and in the child’s backpack.

Any student abusing the phone policy will have the device confiscated and the parent must pick up the device from the front office.
This same policy applies to toys, electronics, and any item the teacher deems inappropriate for the learning environment.

smartwatches: They are allowed as a time telling device however, they should not be used as a texting, calling, or calculating device. These too may be confiscated and taken to the office if they become a problem at which point the student may no longer be allowed to wear one.
We understand that this may seem like a hassle, however this is for the privacy and safety of others in the building.
