What are literal equations?
A literal equation is an equation that consists of mostly variables.
EXAMPLE:
a+b=c-d
Numbers and/or coefficients can be included in the equation.
EXAMPLE:
a+2b=c+1
Explanation of Literal Equations
Literal equations can be used for a lot of things such as finding the area of a rectangle, the circumference of a circle, and the distance of something.
For example, the formula for finding the area of a rectangle is:
A=LW
How to solve Literal Equations
Example:
Steps
solve for x
1. ax+b=c
2. -b -b
3. ax=c-b
1. Figure out what variable you need to isolate.
2. Cancel the other variables from one side to the other ( Use inverse operations).
3. Make sure whatever you do to one side you do to the other.
4. a a
Inverse Operations
5. x=c-b
a
1.Multiplication and division.
3.Squaring and taking a square root
Here are some subtraction and addition problems you can try!!!
Solve for x
1. -w+m-x=h

2. l-e+x=g

3. x+e+r=l

4. b-x-r=k

5. -x-u+y=o
6. p-c+x=m

7. x+f-h=b

8. k+x+r=t

9. j-i+x=g

10. -x+e-s=o

11. v+t-x=k

12. b+f-m+x=z

13. x-p+r-a=h

14. x+r-w-d+s=e
