Mount Carmel Values

Our aim is for every child to leave here an Ambassador of Christ.
Our values are deeply rooted in the high expectations that we have of each child in the school. Our Values permeate across the school through children's learning, friendships, behaviour and leadership.

Our British Values

Our children learn about our British Values through 5 areas. These are discussed at whole school liturgies and during lunch times. We are committed to serving our community, with the strong belief that we are one school for all.

Our Power Values

Our aim is for every child to leave with the power to make a positive change in the world. Through our subjects there are five themes that we believe are integral with teaching children how to become powerful adults.

We ensure that these themes run through our subjects. Children learn about 5 areas of power - Education, Religion, Resources, People and Legacy.

Our aim for your child by the time they leave Mount Carmel.

Pupils will be taught to develop their techniques, including their control and their use of materials, with creativity, experimentation and an increasing awareness of different kinds of art, craft and design.
Pupils will be taught:

 to create sketch books to record their observations and use them to review and revisit ideas

 to improve their mastery of art and design techniques, including drawing, painting and sculpture with a range of materials [for example, pencil, charcoal, paint, clay]

 about great artists, architects and designers in history, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines, and making links to their own work.

How Formal Elements of Art is taught across the school

EYFS

Explore, use and refine a variety of artistic effects
to express their ideas and feelings.
Teach children to develop their colour-mixing techniques to enable them
to match the colours they see and want to represent, with step-by-step
guidance when appropriate.

To use
abstract
composition, through exploring line, making waves and making colour to re-create Jasper Johns ‘0 – 9’ artwork.

Looking at repeating
patterns, and the impact of rubbings on different media,
looking at Max Ernst – and the skill of frottage, which will lead to 3D pencil and colour
drawings.

How Formal Elements in Art is taught across the school

For children to go on a shape hunt and look at different shapes. Draw an observational drawing of a drinks can for perspective.

Using wire create an eel, tilapia, mullet or a catfish (Fish found in the Nile) with a focus on shading.

Creating patterns
through printing. To draw the face of The Iron Man and reflect it around the sheet. Children to imprint texture and pattern to create an outfit for the Iron Man.

For children to design a Hundertwasser house. To build up their skills of
observational drawing, build on their skill of drawing patterns
and monoprinting.

Analysing the world by artists Picasso and Kollwitz, and through the mediums of graffiti, drawing, painting and sculpture, creating artworks that speak to the viewer.

How Art and Design skills is taught across the school

EYFS

Teach children different techniques for joining materials, such as how to use
adhesive tape and different sorts of glue. Help them to
define colours, shapes, texture and smells in their own words.

Through practicing skills in
lego printing,
colour mixing,
printing and experimenting with media to produce a
Louis Wain style of pictures with Beegu
with dogs and cats.

Developing sculpting and modelling skills to create textures of a whale, with clay. Using Clarice Cliff’s ‘Circle Tree’ plate to design a background, looking at weaving a picture and painting practice, create their own Snail and the Whale image.
