Our aim is for every child to leave here an Ambassador of Christ.
Our values are deeply rooted in the high expectations that we have of each child in the school. Our Values permeate across the school through children's learning, friendships, behaviour and leadership.
Our values come from the Church.

Our British Values

Our children learn about our British Values through 5 areas. These are discussed at whole school liturgies and during lunch times. We are committed to serving our community, with the strong belief that we are one school for all.

Our Power Values

Our aim is for every child to leave with the power to make a positive change in the world. Through our subjects there are five themes that we believe are integral with teaching children how to become powerful adults.

We ensure that these themes run through our subjects. Children learn about 5 areas of power - Education, Religion, Resources, People and Legacy.

Our aim for your child, in Computing, to know by the time they leave Mount Carmel.

Mount Carmel aims to ensure that your child:

 can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer
science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation
 can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems
 can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar
technologies, analytically to solve problems
 are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology

The Power of Learning

EYFS

To learn how important it is to have a password or code.

Using the
internet safely, understanding online emotions, to always be kind and
considerate and to know how to post and share online.

To know what happens when a post goes online. To learn how to keep their things safe online. Knowing who to ask for help and teaching them they have the right to say No/I will ask someone. Knowing that not everything online is true.

How Online Safety is taught across the school

To know about fake news and to recognise
when being online makes them upset. To know the rules of social media and look at privacy setting and how they can keep them safe online.

Children will learn what will happen when they search online, how companies persuade us to buy and what is true/false/belief. Children will learn what a bot is. How to be respectful on line.

Children learn about the positive and negative of online
communication. They will learn how Apps keep their personal
information and how to deal with their own online health and online bullying.

Learning to deal with issues online; about the impact and consequences of sharing information online; how to develop a positive online reputation;
combating and dealing with online bullying and protective passwords.

EYFS

To learn what a keyboard is and how to locate relevant keys.

To learn how to log in to a computer,
develop mouse skills, draw and manipulate shapes
using a range of tools to create layered shapes to create a self portrait.

Getting to know the keyboard and learning how to use word processing packages. To build on the skills of word processing through digital writing.

How Computing Systems and Networks are taught across the school

To understand
different forms of input and output, to consolidate learning by building their own laptop from paper.
Understanding the role of the CPU and GPU. For children to recognise
the differences
between laptops and tablets.

For children to understand what a HTML is and how it changes technology. They will create their own webpage, looking at how to change their images and how this can lead to fake news.

To understand the role
of search engines. How to search effectively. To look at a web index, page
ranking and the role of web crawlers.

Discovering the history of Bletchley and learning about code breaking and password hacking.
Demonstrating digital literacy skills by creating presentations.

EYFS

To follow instructions as part of practical activities and games and to learn to debug when things go wrong
To learn to give simple instructions
To learn that an algorithm is a set of instructions to carry out a task, in a specific order.

To learn how to use a beebot. To create
a demonstration video about using a beebot.
To move the beebot over a map.

Learn that computers use algorithms to make informed calculated predictions. Identifying an understanding of ‘abstraction’ by creating a map of the school.

How Programming is taught across the school

To familiarise
themselves
with Scratch, to be able to create ‘sprites’ ‘loops’ and ‘tinker.’ To explain the algorithm behind an animation they have created.

Further coding with Scratch: using
decomposition
to identify key features. To understand what a variable is and how to make one.

Scratch - building-on programming and music skills to create different sounds, beats and melodies, of spy music, which are put to the test with a Battle of the Bands
performance!

Using the programming language 'Python' to create designs and art. Learning how to create loops and nested loops to make their code more efficient.

EYFS

To learn how to explore and tinker with hardware to develop familiarity and introduce relevant vocabulary

Planning a photo story and sequence pictures. Taking good clear photos, learning to edit photos using filters and effects. To use search engines to collect images and then produce a high quality photo collage.

Using tablet devices, to understand what animation is. To plan a stop motion animation and then make it into a real project.
