Teaching Philosophy
“A teacher plants the seeds of knowledge, sprinkles them with love, and patiently nurtures their growth to produce tomorrow’s dreams.” - Unknown

As a teacher, this is a quote I wholeheartedly believe in as I deal with learners who have different educational needs and personalities daily. I am of the belief that not only is a teacher responsible for teaching learners in the classroom about school related work, but also about life. As teachers, we are what you would call “Deputy Parents”, because learners spend most of their time with us at school, and my duty would be to motivate my learners daily and teach them about more than what the curriculum ordered.
When I got to my school for teaching practice, I was happy to see that the education the learners seemed to be getting was top-notch and they had so many resources at their disposal, as well as many opportunities, including cultural, academic and sport. The teachers also made it a point to help them balance their schoolwork, and their extra-curricular activities.
During my nine weeks there, I got to know my learners, not only on a professional level, but also on a more “semi-personal” level. It was a great experience in the sense that I ended up I ended up seeing how different they were in terms of academic work, cultural activities, and sport. Some were very confident in sport/cultural activities but lacked that same confidence in their academic work. Some of them had confidence in their academic work, and none in their sport/cultural activities (they would even try to skip practice).  I also realized that some of them struggled not only with their schoolwork, but also with some things from home. Not all the learners there were privileged.
Some of the learners had a few struggles at home, and in turn, this disturbed them a bit at school. It was then when I realized that a school psychologist is very important, as they will be able to ease the load off the learners’ shoulders. The school has a psychologist, and it was nice to see that the learners were able to keep to their appointments. It also seemed like they were very comfortable with opening up to their psychologist. Mental health is taken seriously there, and it was definitely a fresh of breath air.

I believe that my learners need to know that I will always be there for them, be it academically, physically, or emotionally, and that I will try to help them
in any way possible. I was not able to do some of the things I had planned to
do at that school, but I made sure that my learners were happy. I took into
consideration that they were all different and made sure to incorporate their
different learning needs into my lesson plans and activities.
As a teacher, I need to be skillful and ensure the provision of information,
learning tools and skills to my learners that will ensure their success in the
future. Learning the different learning styles of all your learners is very
important, in the sense that it will help you prepare your lessons that will
cater to their educational needs and allow you to be creative in their delivery
of the lessons.

Classroom Management
As educators, we are often faced with the problem of learners yelling out things in the classroom or interrupting their group discussions by asking to go to the bathroom, ask a question, or to go and drink some water. These disruptions tend to disturb the rest of the class, therefore making them lose focus in the work that they are busy with.  Coming up with a classroom management tool that will assist you in minimising these distractions would be very beneficial for both the learners and the teacher. A classroom management plan is not a discipline plan but is a set of procedures and routines for accomplishing things in the classroom and structures the classroom so that students know how things work in the classroom, resulting in fewer interruptions.
Using the hand signal system in the classroom can minimise all those distractions and improve the behaviour of the learners in the classroom. The hand signal system is basically a system where instead of a student raising their hand, waiting to be noticed and called on, and then verbally requesting to use the bathroom, or get a drink of water, they hold up a specific number of fingers. This shows the teacher what they need, and she can simply acknowledge him with a nod. This system is effective throughout the entire school day but is especially useful when you are conferencing with a student or teaching a small group lesson.
