TRADITIONAL GAMES

Material (for each participant): 2 empty metal cans (must be the same size) and a resistant rope How to make your mini stilts: Use a can piercer or hammer and nail to punch two holes on opposite sides of each can near the base of the can. Run a length of rope through the holes and securely knot it inside the can. The rope loop should reach to about mid-thigh on the user of the stilts. Repeat with the other can and turn them over. Participants: multiple players Rules: The participants stand side by side. On “Go”, they hold onto the ropes, step on the cans and pull up on the ropes to keep cans and feet in contact. Then, they must walk as fast as possible from the starting point toward the finish line. The first person to cross the finish line is the winner. If the participants want the race to be more challenging, they can wear a higher pair of wooden stilts instead.

Rules: More than two players participate in this game. The players stand on o horizontal line and they bite the end of a spoon with a small potato on it. &nbsp;A finish line is set and the players have to finish the walking race without the potato falling down.&nbsp;&nbsp; If the potato falls, the player has to return to the start.&nbsp;The winner is the person who manages to get to the finish line first. The same game can be played with boiled eggs or plastic eggs to avoid mess.&nbsp;Then the race is called avgodromies (egg race).

Rules: 5-6 flat stones are placed on top of each other (skatoulika).&nbsp;A player is the keeper (skatouliaris). The other players (each has his stone) stand behind a line, 5-6 meters away from the pile of stones (skatoulika). They throw their stone, in turn, to spoil the pile. If a player spoils the pile, they run to get their stone back, before the keeper makes the pile, because then he will have the right to chase them. Any child caught by the keeper, before crossing the line, becomes the keeper (skatouliaris).

A team game played outdoors by boys and girls. The children are divided into two equal groups and placed next to each other in two parallel lines that are about 10 meters apart. Players are numbered -each row separately- from 1,2,3, and so on. to the last, so that 1 of one team is opposite to 1 of the other team, 2 to 2 and so on. In the middle of the space and at an equal distance from the two lines (therefore from both teams) stands the "leader" of the game, who holds a handkerchief with outstretched hand. At the beginning of the game the leader utters a number and immediately the children who have the number in both groups run to get the handkerchief. Each of the children, while planning with his mind how to take the handkerchief and leave without being caught by the opponent, at the same time takes care to monitor his opponent so that he does not take it and get away from him. Whoever decides to take the handkerchief runs to his team, while his opponent chases him to catch him. If he manages to get the handkerchief to his team, then his team makes a "loop". In other words, he wins a point. But if the opponent catches him, then the opponent's team does the trick. The leader usually calls more than one number at a time. So there is confusion and it is easier for someone to grab the handkerchief and escape.

&nbsp;Four children or more can participate in this game. They are separated in two teams. Children need 7 roof tiles or wide stones to play this game. The stones or roof tiles must be placed in such a way as to form a tower. The first team stands behind the stones while the second team stands seven or eight steps in front of the stones. The children of the second team try to throw the tower of stones down with a ball. Every child has got one opportunity to destroy the tower. If a child throws the tower of stones down with the ball, then the two teams scatter in the surrounding area. While the first team tries to "burn" the players of the second team hitting them with the ball, the second team tries to rebuilt the tower of stones, i. e. the mosque. If the second team rebuilds the tower in time, without its players being "burnt", it is the winner of one part of the game. The player who puts the last stone on the tower, shouts out "Mosque" and ends the game. If the first team "burns" all the players of the second team before they rebuild the tower, then the game starts all over with the teams having reverse roles. The winner of the game is the team which rebuilds the mosque the most times.

It takes two or three people. We put the rubber on the legs as you see in the photo and we start. At first the legs are open and the rubber band on the ankle, and then the rubber band goes up to the knee and the thighs and after that, in the same order but with the legs closed. And in the end the most difficult of all with one foot! With a series of moves, you move on to the next and each time more difficult phase of the game. The movements are: you put one foot between the rubber band and then you put the other one, taking out the first one. Then both feet inside, and finally both outside.

Material:&nbsp;potato sacks Participants: Variable number / Individual or by teams Rules: The participants place both of their legs inside a sack that reaches their waist and hold the sack with their hands. Then they hop forward from a starting point toward a finish line. The first person / team to cross the finish line is the winner of the race. Running inside the bag is viewed as cheating. If the participants fall, they can resume the race in the place where they stopped, as long as they place their legs inside the sack again.

Material: a rope / a string / a handkerchief for every two players Participants: At least 4 participants Rules: Pair up the participants and have them stand side by side, with an arm around their partner’s waist. The partners’ inside legs should be touching. Tie the inside legs together so each pair of participants has three legs rather than four. On “Go”, the pairs race to a finish line. The pair that crosses the line first wins.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Rope pulling game / Tug of war

Material:&nbsp;A rope and a tape or a handkerchief Participants: Multiple players (by teams) Rules: Two teams hold a rope at opposite ends. A tape or a handkerchief must be tied around the centre of the rope. Three corresponding lines are marked on the ground. When the referee, standing next to the centre line, gives the signal, each team start pulling the rope backwards as hard as they can and try to drag the other team across the centre line. The game ends when one team pulls the other and the tape/ handkerchief on the losers’ side crosses the ground mark on the winners’ side. The contest is decided by the best two out of three pulls.&nbsp;If a team fall or let the rope go, the other team win. &nbsp;

The game is played by 5 players and up. To play the game, two children build a bridge with their hands and the other children go under it. The children who make the bridge choose two words, one for each. Then they sing a song: "Passes - the bee passes with the bee chicks and the crocodiles". The child who will be under the bridge, when the song is over, is caught by the children who make the bridge. Then they tell him the two words they chose and the child must choose one of the two. Whichever word he chooses goes with the child who chose that word. So it is with the rest. Whoever gets the most in his team wins.

Dielkistinda or travigma sxoiniou (Rope pull)

&nbsp; Rules: Two equal teams with same number of participants are needed for this game. A long thick rope marked in the middle is necessary. A mark or a line is also needed on the floor.&nbsp;The middle of the rope is placed above the mark on the floor.&nbsp; Each group of players holds the rope in the right and left side of the marked sign in the middle. Players have to pull with all their strength on their side so that the opponent group passes the marked line on the floor.&nbsp; The group that manages to pull the opponent group to its side and make it cross the marked sign on the floor is the winner. &nbsp;

MARBLES The game is played in different ways. One of them is: we draw on the ground a starting line, two concentric circles and the center of the circle. The children throw their marbles, in turn, making sure that the ball reaches as close to the center as possible to be the winner. Another

Another variation is: we place 5 marbles in a row and at equal distance and perpendicular to the line of balls, two players sit. Each player throws his marble and tries to score one of the 5. The first to score 3 goals wins.

&nbsp; Material: 15 cans, one rag ball and a table per team Participants: Two teams (multiple players) Rules: The cans are stacked in a pyramid formation (5, 4, 3, 2, 1). The game is played by all team members, who must stand behind the throwing line (5 metres away from the target). Each player, one at a time, takes a turn tossing the rag ball at the cans and tries to knock down as many cans as possible. Each can knocked down (on the ground or on the table) scores a point. After each player’s turn, the cans must be rearranged and the game goes on until all the players have thrown the ball twice. The team to knock down the most cans in a series of rounds win the game!

The game is played with at least four players. We draw a symbol like a flower on the ground. We select a mother and a wolf dad among the players. The mother wait at the center, and other players- her children wait in the other circles. The mother gives different colour name for her each child. After that the wolf dad comes ,&nbsp;rings the bell and asks ‘Do you have an egg?’ The mother answers ‘What colour do you want?’ The wolf dad says a colour , if there is a child with the same colour, he/she begin to run away and the wolf dad tries to catch him/her. The child should comes back his/her places before the wolf dad catches him/her. If the wolf dad can catch the player, they change the position.

Rules of Dodgeball The number of players, number of balls, size of court and length of game can be determined by the organisers. Players must remain within the court at all times, unless collecting dead balls. Players are allowed to leave the court to collect balls but they are not allowed to throw the ball until they are back within the court. If a player leaves the court for any other purpose or they throw a ball from outside the court, they are eliminated. The rules regarding headshots can be decided upon personal preference or by order of an official body. Some games will see the throwing player eliminated if an opponent is stuck on the head, some games will see the player struck on the head eliminated. Players struck with a ball that is then caught before it becomes dead are eliminated. When a player catches a ball, the throwing player will be eliminated.

Needs: Nine flat Stones A ball At least six players How can we play? : First the players become two groups. Secondly they put the stones on each other . Next both groups go back nearly ten steps and draw a line on the ground. Then the beginner group take the ball and they try to hit the stones by rolling the ball.I If the first group can’t achieve to fall the stones, second group take the ball. Then If a group achieve hitting the stones, they will escape quickly before the rival group hit them with ball . Moreover the players should put the stones on line again without being caught. If the players put the stones on again , they gain a point. If the rival group hit the players , they gain a point.

Sakkoulodromies (Sack race)

&nbsp; Rules: More than two children take part in bag races.&nbsp;Each player takes a bag and puts her/his feet inside. She/he holds the bag at the top and stands in front of the starting line. The goal is to reach the finish line first by jumping into the bag. It is very easy to lose your balance but it offers a lot of fun to the contestants and the audience. When the signal is given, usually with a whistle, all the players start jumping towards the finish line. If a player falls down, he-she can stand up and continue until the end. The winner is the player who reaches the finish line first.

Afga tou Koloka or mantili (Eggs of koloka or handkerchief)

Rules: A group of players can play this game.&nbsp;The players are sitting on the floor shaping a circle. &nbsp;One of the players stays out of the circle holding a handkerchief.&nbsp; The players sitting start to sing a particular song ‘’Afga afga poulo ta, tou thkiou mou tou Koloka, pou kamnei kolokouthkia tziai tron ta kopellouthkia, outhkia, outhkia, kopellouthkia’’. While hearing the song, the player holding the handkerchief walks around the cycle and at the end of the song leaves the handkerchief behind one of the players sitting on the floor and runs around the circle. As soon as the player sitting realizes that the handkerchief is behind him/her, takes the handkerchief, stands up and starts chasing the player. &nbsp;If the second player manages to catch the first player, the first player sits in the middle of the circle.&nbsp;If the first player manages to reach the empty space of the second player without being caught, then the game starts from the beginning.
