We are on Safari by Class 6

In Art we looked at hot colours, comparing them to the cold colours used last term. We created our own colour wash background using these colours to create an African sunset scene. We then added some African silhouettes to finish our art masterpieces.  

We celebrated all our knowledge and learning about Africa so far with an exciting day at the end of the half term. During this day we found out all about the Water Aid charity and the fantastic work they do in supporting African communities to get fresh water. We took part in our own water aid challenge, carrying buckets of water around our school playground to help us understand the challenged faced by some families in Africa. 

As part of our end of term celebration of learning, we took part in an African Drumming workshop. During this session we learnt how to play traditional African drums, learning African rhythms in a call and response method. At the end of the session we were able to perform our African drumming songs confidently.

In History we have been learning about the life and work of Jane Goodall in Africa. We researched her life as a child and the work she did as an adult learning about chimpanzees in Africa. 

We have learnt all about the cultures and traditions of the Maasai tribes. We looked closely at the traditional Maasai masks and necklaces and then made our very own masks and necklaces in this style.

We have been using all of our knowledge about Africa to make our own powerpoint presentations in our Computing lessons this half term. <br/>We have made a powerpoint, added images and text and edited and saved our work. <br/>Look out for the finished products on our website towards the end of term!

We learnt about life in traditional Kenyan villages through stories. We found about about the challenges facing some people especially around collecting water. We found about how water jugs and clay pots were used to transport water. We looked the beautiful decorations on these pots using traditional African colours and patterns. 

Our final day of the half term was made up of our very own Forefield Safari! <br/>We went in search of African animals on our school field and had great fun finding them hiding in our forest school.

In Geography we have been learning all about the continent of Africa. We have found out all about the climate, landscape, wildlife and traditions of Africa as well as finding out what life is like in different parts of Africa comparing the cities to the remote villages. We have located Africa in the world using an atlas and looked at different features on each map.
