One night my parents and I hopped in my dads Subaru. I was confused because it was late and a school night. My parents said “ We are just going to pick something up” so I asked “what?”, but my dad didn’t answer. He just kept driving.

The black night sky soared above our car. Stars peeked out from the clouds. The moon rose high in the sky. Town turned into fields of grass and then back into a small town. We stopped at one of the houses. Although it was late, the lights were still on. My mom walked and my dad talked as we neared the house.
As we walked through the door I saw a cat, and only one thing went through my head, “Cute cat!” The cat jumped. The cat was huge. My parents and the lady looked at me. The lady said “My name is Missy.” She said we should sit down on the couch with her, but I played with the cat.. her fur tickled so soft and fluffy. She had a little pink nose. Her soft skin jiggled under her belly. Her tail flicked to one side and then to another.

My parents called me to the couch. The cat kept looking at me. Missy told me the cat’s name was Ruby. I said “Cute name.” Then she said, “ We have two dogs and Ruby hates the dogs.” All of us start walking to the door. In a sad voice she says, “I am looking for a new owner for this cat.” Right away I knew what was going on. I was so surprised! I almost cried because I knew my dad didn’t want a cat. I knew this was hard for him.

The next thing I knew we were in the car with the cat. My brain stopped working, I was so tired. Driving home the cat was terrified. Inside the car, I tried to hug the cat but she was so scared she hid under the drivers seat. When we got home the cat ran downstairs because that is where she had been living her entire life. Being a scaredy cat, she hid under the bed. A few minutes later she explored the land of the upstairs. Over time, she got used to us. As she settled in, I had to find a new name for the cat. There were a lot of stars the night I got her, and she is as big as a star, so I named her Star, Star Ruby Spahn. THE END
