History in the Making

We knew what we needed to do and that was to play our games not the others team game. The 4th set was a battle that we won 25-21. You could see the goosebumps on us as we were close to winning the first ever game in program history.

We were playing our rival Lake Region High School. We came close to beating them last year but we were determined to beat them this year. 

I could hear our hearts pounding, the shivers of my teammates and the anxious tapping of feet from the crown as we were gearing up for the next set. In the final set we have to score 15 up by 2 to win. 

The home team crown roars with excitement, the girls are jumping up and down that you can feel the gym shake. The tears of joy drip down the faces of the girls as we realize we just made history. The Westbrook High School varsity volleyball team just won their first ever game. 

It was a close game going back and forth. We finally got a lead and it was 9-7. Our program was still developing and we had a freshmen coming up to serve. You could see the nervousness behind her eyes as she started to serve. 

She serves an ace and we do our ace dance of stomping and screaming ace. The crowd is standing and clapping. You could feel the vibrations on the court of all the excitement in the crowd. 

We lost the first set by two points. Although coming off of a loss we did not hang our heads as we knew there was still a lot of game left to play. Diving for every ball and not giving up we fought through to win the second set.<br/><br/>

We were coming off an high after winning the second set. The smiles and happiness were contagious although all the happieness they beat us the third set and were down 2-1 best of 5.

Our hearts were racing, the crowd was roaring and all we could think was "are we going to make history?" 

The freshmen goes on a run and the score is 14-7. We need one more point to win. The serve is good, they get it back to our side. I pass the ball to our setter, she sets the ball and then our outside has a kill to win the game.
