How the Elephant got its trunk

In the beginning, at the start of the world, all animals in the savanna worked hard building houses and finding food, however one young, rude and lively Elephant did not. He would spend his days running around the African plains, insulting every animal it saw. If you were ever kind to it, the Elephant would say thanks by ignoring you and thundering off.

Early one Friday morning, a tall and elegant Giraffe trotted over to the elephant, “Hello Dear Elephant,” the Giraffe said in a grand tone. “I would like to inform you that there is a naughty baboon, who I think you should stay away from.”

But the Elephant just ignored her warning.

Later that day, an energetic, bouncy Leopard stopped by the Elephant “G day mate,” the Leopard spoke “I wos wonderin if you’d eard bout the new baboon, I’d stay away from im if I wos yo.”

But the elephant just ignored his warning.

By the end of the day, when the Elephant was walking home, the baboon swung passed. Blowing a cloud of sand into the elephant’s eye, he cried “WHACH WHERE YOUR GOING, FURY!”

Little did the Elephant know, the baboon was deeply offended by the insult and had a prank to pull the next morning.
Early on Saturday, the elephant walked to the nearest pool of water, to take a drink. However, something was lying right under his nose. No sooner than he had lowered his face to the water… SPLASH! The baboon, who had been hiding in the water, had now grabbed hold of the elephant’s nose!
Squealing in pain, the Elephant ran around, with the baboon now stretching it. The elephant could feel it growing longer. The harder the baboon tugged, the longer the elephant’s trunk began to appear. Once the elephant was free from the creature’s grasp, he looked at his reflection in the water. He looked completely different.

From that day and onward, all elephants have had long noses (nowadays we call them trunks) as a reminder of never to be rude or unkind ever again.
