Once upon a time, in 1951, a loving family was taking a family vacation 30 miles west of Milan, Italy. During this vacation, George Rau Jr., the son of the Lazarus family, came across a peculiar creature. The boy, age 10, saw a lizard! This lizard excited him so much, he decided to take around 6-10 home to make them his pets. However, when they arrived back home in Cincinnati, Ohio, the boy released the lizards. Similar in climate to Milan, the lizards were able to thrive and multiple. And since, many kids, like George, have taken these lizards home to be pets only to release them around their homes. (Lazarus lizard.)
