OUR TOWN, CANDÁS

THE PARKS

This is "Santarua" park. It has got many flowers. It has got many trees. In this place, children can play.

This is a place to wash clothes. It has got frog sculptures. In the past, women washed the clothes here.

This is Santarua fountain. It has got five pipes. It was built in 1779. The water flows from a nearby underground source.

MUSEUM

Children from Candás visit the museum with the school. 

This is "Antón's Museum". There are many sculptures from Antón. He was a famous sculptor from Candás. There are temporary exhibitions. Next to the museum there is a park. In the park, there are many sculptures.

THE FISH FACTORY IN CANDÁS

This is "Conserveres" park.

There is a museum here. It's about the fish factory in Candás. In Candás there were many fish factories to put fish in tins.

FESTIVITIES

There are three important festivities in Candás. San Antonio is in June. People meet at San Antonio’s park. People take traditional food and eat it with friends.

At the Sardine festival, people meet in the English park, next to the school, and eat sardines. It's on 1st August.

El Cristo is on 14th September. People go to the harbour and they have fun in the funfair.

This is "Maestro Antuña" park. In this park you can see a sculpture that reminds of the Dolphins’ Lawsuit. The park is in front of the train station.

This is "Prendes" theatre. It's next to the park. We can watch movies and theatre plays, and you can buy popcorn to watch them. The theatre is old. It was built in 1963.

SPORTS CENTRE

This is the sports centre. There is a field to play football, a basketball court, a volleyball court, some gyms... Here, you can practice cycling, canoeing, athleticism, handball, volleyball, gymnastics…

There is a swimming pool near Candás.

This is the Pregona beach. Here, you can see Peña Furada. It is a big rock that has got a hole. There are lots of rocks with crabs.

This is Palmera Beach. This beach has this name because there are two palm trees. You can see "Los Ángeles" lighthouse between Palmera and Pregona beaches. At Palmera beach you can see the breakwater.

THE BEACHES

There are several beaches in Candás. There is a harbour too.

There is a building. On the first floor, there is a restaurant. Its name is "Náutico". On the ground floor there is the fish market.

THE CHURCH

This is "San Felix" church. People go to the church to pray. There is a bell. It plays the song of the Christ of Candás. It is fantastic. Inside, there is the Christ of Candás.

CANDÁS, OLYMPIC VILLAGE

Candás is an Olympic village. Many people from Candás participated in the Olympic Games in relation to the number of inhabitants.

THE TOWN CENTRE

This is "Baragaña" square. This square is actually triangular. Sometimes kids play here. There is an ice cream parlour. There are many restaurants and bars. And there is a tourist information office.

Near Baragaña square there is a multi-purpose building. Here, there is a music school, a centre for retired people, some offices for different associations, a café and three multi-use rooms.

CANDÁS

Candás is a fishing village in Asturias, in the north of Spain.

This is the town hall. Here the mayor and the councillors work. The mayor of Candás is Amelia Fernández. She is the head of the council. The town hall is yellow and red. It has got a skylight.

This is the old town hall building. Now the city police is here.

This is San Antonio park. In San Antonio, there is a park. There are sculptures and canions. You can see the Cantabrian Sea. It’s next to a cliff. The landscape is amazing.

There is a chapel, San Antonio’s chapel. It’s white. It’s got a bell. It was built in the second half of the XVI century. The nobles of Candás built this chapel. It’s an offering for the end epidemic plague in this dates. It is located on San Antonio cape. There is a lighthouse too.
