Sacajawea and The Trail of Tears

Sacajawea was a strong and independent woman and was a great role model. Lewis and Clark wouldn't have been able to survive if she had not been there to find wild berries and trade for horses. She went on the expedition when she was 16.

People weren't even treated like people at this time. Even though they may look different or they have something that you want does not mean that you have to hurt someone in order to get it. At this time we Americans were not thinking, and now we look back to this day and are sorry, but that does not make up for what we did. We wanted land, so we forced other people out of their land just so we could get it. We took people's homes and some people's lives just because we were multiplying. In 1838 every Cherokee America could find was forced into round-up camps.

"Fulfillment of our manifest destiny to overspread the continent allotted by Providence for the free development of our yearly multiplying millions." ~John O' Sullivan In my own words that means: "Accomplishing taking over North America and saying that it was given to us by god because we are multiplying and god gifts us with the gift of new land."

During the Trail of Tears 4,000 people died of hunger, thirst, or sickness. These people were marched at gun point against their will. One of the Cherokee leaders was assassinated by his own people because he agreed to travel with the Americans. Because of the Trail of Tears people stayed close and became closer.

In conclusion the way it rolls out is like one good thing in history and one bad thing in history. One topic was amazing, it was this amazing quest for discovery and a woman had one of the main roles. She helped everyone survive and her name was Sacajawea. The second topic was this great downfall in American history. We forced people out of their homes just so we could have more space for ourselves. I think that overall we learned huge lessons from each event.

The Corps of Discovery took place in May 1804&nbsp;and&nbsp;September 1806 Sacajawea was Meriwether Lewis and William Clark's interpreter and guide. She was helpful in many ways. She saved journals after a canoe tipped and she got horses from trading. She also gave birth to a baby on the trip.

The Trail of Tears took place in 1838, The Trail of tears was a trail that is one of America's worst times. We took all kinds of native tribes especially Cherokee. We forced them out of their homes because we wanted more land for our expanding country. We were forcing people out of their homes and decreasing their population by 4,000.
