Child Find FAQs for Parents

The purpose of Child Find is to locate, identify and evaluate children from birth to 21 years of age with disabilities and their possible need for special education and related services.

Child Find is a free referral and information service available through local education agencies (school districts and charter schools)

If you are concerned that your child may be learning, playing, or interacting differently from others, please contact your local special education department or call SPEDTex, the Special Education Information Center, at 1-855-773-3839.

Child Find is a continuous process of public awareness activities, screening and evaluation designed to locate, identify, and evaluate children with disabilities who are in need of Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) Programs (Part C) or Special Education and Related Services (Part B).<br><br>Child Find is a component of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) 2004 that applies to States and Local Education Agencies (school districts and charter schools) (34 CFR§ 300.111).
