We Planted a Tree

We helped our school and community by planting shrubs (mini trees) and flowers to beautify the front of the school. Mr. Koraly, a community volunteer, showed us how to plant!

Unit 3: How can we inspire others to appreciate and enjoy trees?

After learning about the importance of trees and the joy trees can bring to a community, we formed our own opinions and provided reasons why we think trees are nice in order to inspire others to enjoy and appreciate trees!

After reading some story books, we created class charts to help us with comparing and contrasting characters as well as retelling story events. It was also fun to act them out!

Unit 2: How and why are trees important to us and our communities?

Building on our understanding of how others enjoy trees, we read more to learn about reasons why trees are important. We discovered authors' opinions and identified their reasons that support them. Exploring and observing places where trees are planted, helped us understand reasons why they are important. We gathered lots of information to help us create our own opinion!

We read lots of story books to get ideas of why trees are important to others and how they enjoy trees in different ways.

We shared our knowledge to inspire others to appreciate and enjoy trees by created a Tree Appreciation card, including an opinion statement, that invites others to pause and appreciate trees around them.

Using our charts for resources, we chose a reason why we think trees are nice. After writing our opinions, we zoomed in on which part of the tree goes along with our reason.

We recorded our findings daily in our Enjoying Trees Journal.

While reading story books, we strengthened our comprehension skills by retelling using parts of a story, roll playing characters and events, as well as writing about it.
