Erasmus 2021

On Monday and Tuesday, the German students still had to wear masks in the classroom. We also tested them for Corona on Monday - everybody negative! 

Still sweating from the dance, we took a look at the Distance Challenge that each national group tried to tackle. After thirty minutes of adding up the numbers and compiling short presentations, the moment of truth: the Lithuanian team was the clear winner with an amazing total of 1.050 km! In their presentation, the students showed us some gorgeous trails for hiking and running in their region and told us all about their impressive PE programs. The German team came in second with a total of 736 km, the Swedish team third (672 km) and the Slovenian students and teachers also contributed to the challenge with 223 km - well done, everybody!

The winning team got their well-deserved trophy at least virtually. On the following page you can see the description of the distance challenge.

We started with a warm up dance led by the Swedish students!

To evaluate the program, the students participated in a mentimeter feedback session, prepared by Lithuania. Johannes' dancing was the clear winner when the students were asked for the best moment during the project! :) The students also enjoyed making new friends and communicating in English. Points that could be improved on were: get rid of corona, school wifi and more time for talking activities. Students also wish to meet face 2 face next time. Hopefully, the corona virus will be history during the next meeting, so we can see each other again in person. When asked for their expectations, students commented that they would like to communicate with young people from all around Europe and get to know the others. In the final hour of our project, the students had the opportunity to greet the others on a padlet and note down their wishes - a virtual good-bye!

The final day started with another morning warm up, this time led by a dance teacher from the Lithuanian group. It was great fun to learn the choreography and perform the dance together. 

The German bilingual English course of the ECOLEA International School is looking forward to our virtual project meeting!

We were very excited for our first day of the digital ERASMUS+ project! First, we listened to the presentations of regions &amp; schools by the national groups and were impressed what the schools have to offer. Next, we played a Kahoot! Game and tested our knowledge on European geography, customs and traditions.

After 45 min of more group work the best part of our project came: it was finally time to try out the games and evaluate them. So, in their national groups, the students played each other's games and had a ball! We also took some time to correct tiny errors and language mistakes. All in all, the mystery game seemed to be the most popular activity of all the games created but the Jeopardy games and the Kahoot! received good feedback, as well. Now, after spending hours creating digital games, collaborating and communicating virtually in multinational groups, the students can consider themselves true experts! :) Nobody felt tired of playing Kahoot... Now it was time to get some fresh air outside in our final lunch break of the project.

Comments by the students Students in group "Group One" "During our working process in our project we firstly got to know each other. Everyone in our group said their name, what they are interested in and other general personal facts. We were a bit shy at first, but to loosen up the atmosphere we played a little game. Everyone from each country said some words in their native language and the other ones had to guess what it means. The next day we stared to discuss what kind of game with what storyline we wanted to do. We decided to create a breakout mystery that is about four characters, each one representing the stereotype of the countries. We then allocated the tasks to everyone, so that every person had something to do. At the end of the day we collected everything and put it together, finishing the most. The third day we completed our game and played it, to check if everything is all right. We had a lot of fun and enhanced our English speaking skills. The next point on the agenda for the day was the workshop in the multinational groups to create digital games. The groups chose between three different options. The first option was to create a digital Jeopardy game with the tool play.factile.com. Another option was to develop a board game on the website genial.ly and for escape-room lovers we offered a mystery game to be created with the same tool, genial.ly. The students took some time to explore the different games and decided what to make. After brainstorming, a quick check-in with all groups and teachers and a lunch break, the students got together and took responsibility for their final projects. They incorporated their knowledge from the presentations and the distance challenge and got really creative!

Afterwards, the students spent some time getting to know each other in their groups via a video call. Then they created a profile with their names, nationalities, shared interests, hobbies - and a funny group name, of course. This workshop was the first challenge for the students to connect virtually and not face2face. You can see their profiles in the final section of this eBook.

Group "Just Us" "This year we did the project virtually which was a bit strange. Although we did not physically met each other, we were able to contact and „meet“ our partners. We learned how to create a zoom conference, a jeopardy game and we learned about each of our home-countries.&nbsp; The activity we liked the best was the dance lead by the Lithuanian dance teacher. It was very funny.&nbsp; We liked the whole experience but there is one thing we would improve. The whole three days we had a pretty tight schedule which did not really allowed us to talk to our partner and get to know them even better." <a href="https://www.playfactile.com/kpnsr45rh1">Click here to play the Jeopardy Game</a> created by the group.

On Monday, we had started the project with a Kahoot! game - so, the only way to end it was by playing another Kahoot! game. ;) In addition to a few selected questions from the first game where the students tested themselves what they remembered, we added a couple of questions based on the presentations by the country groups and the Distance challenge. Everybody had a lot of fun, once again, and a Slovenian student won! On Tuesday, a journalist from the local newspaper had paid us a visit to learn more about our project, take photos and ask questions. You can read the article on the following page:

Group "The Technical Incompetent Ones" "Monday At first we had a zoom meeting with all the other countries and introduced ourselves with a presentation about our regions. Afterwards we played a kahoot game. So much fun!!! Then we went to separate rooms and tried to connect with all our group members, which took a long time. At the end we presented our creative Mindmap and proudly stated our group name the technically incompetent once.&nbsp; Tuesday&nbsp; We started the day with a morning exercise presented by the Sweden, which was very difficult because the internet was bad. So we decided to see Johannes dancing in full screen with all his emotions. After that we went in our groups again and started working on our project till the end of the day. All in all if was one of the most wonderful days in our life’s. - Meet each other virtually and get to know each other in our multinational groups! - Have a fun time together and make friends across borders. - Learn about our partner countries, cultures and traditions. - Create digital games and play them. - Students apply their language skills in an authentic setting while cooperating in multinational groups via video conference tools.

Group "Amogus aka confused cheese" "In our opinion the project was fun although everything was online. We wished to have more contact with our teammates from the other countries so that we can talk more about our lives and so one. The idea to create a game is good, but the websites where too complicated to program the game we wanted to create. All in all it was a good experience and we met some new friendly Europeans.
