The low grumble and gentile swaying of the bus did nothing to calm the feelings of fear and anxiety clawing inside me. My mind racing trying to find some sort of excuse not to face the monstrous responsibility I was about to take on. It was the day, the day we had been planning and preparing for threw the blazing hot spring day. It was the day of our first track meet.

The bus ride seemed to go by a lot faster than I had anticipated it to. A bus full of girls laughing and gossiping. All of us matching in navy blue sweats that dragged on the ground as we walked being sizes to big. Once there me and two close friends of mine followed the more experienced track members to a big field where we would soon be running. Another flush of fear washed over me, but this time something else was there too was it excitement? Maybe.

All of us matching in navy blue sweats that dragged on the ground as we walked being sizes to big. Once there me and two close friends of mine followed the more experienced track members to a big field where we would soon be running. Another flush of fear washed over me, but this time something else was there too was it excitement? Maybe.

“Come on let's go,” says the girls around me as they start to run.
“Okay?” i say a bit confused but, then realizing what was happening.
“It's just a warm up lap nothing to freak out about,” i whisper to myself. Once everyone is done with the warm ups we all gather together in a tight circle. Confused again i just follow everyone else's lead.
“Ok everyone! We are going to say a prayer,” she says with a big smile that makes me happy.
Our whole team goes down on our knees  together in unison to pray. After the prar everyone including me has there spirits raised. Looking over at my friends I can see it in them to that they are just as excited as I am to do this now.

“Come on let's go,” says the girls around me as they start to run.
“Okay?” i say a bit confused but, then realizing what was happening.

After about the most stressful wait i've ever endured my team was called to start preparing to run.  
“Oh no, see you soon,” i say to my friends giving them a half smile.
“You got this!” they say. I jump down from the bleachers taking off my track suit so I can put on my shorts. I start to search for my team so that we can do a few more handoffs to perfect our technique before it is put to the test. After a few rounds of our pass offs we were ready, they announced our race one last time and we walked to our spots on the track. Me still being new to everything followed the other teams I was going to be racing to the far left corner of the track. I got in my lane.  At this point there was no going back I was about to race these ninth graders that I call,“bullets in training.” the gun goes off and my partner starts passing most of the competitors.
“Good, gives me a head start.” I think to myself. My partner getting closer my heart starts racing and the adrenaline kicks in.

“Almost here, almost time, im ready,” I say in my head. My partner is only a few feet away so I start running to do the perfect hand off. Not looking back I stick my hand backwards and feel the cool metal of the baton in my hand and I pick up my pace to a full all out sprint. Left right left right left right. My other partner sees me coming and starts to do the same technique we had been practicing. With his hand out back just like mine was I slap the baton to him and i'm done!
“Go! Go! Go!” I yell behind him. Watching him as he runs over the finish line. Fast Forward to the end of the race and we got 4th of 7 and to our team that was super good because, we were kinda just a fill in for another team. I could finally relax we did good and my coach was proud.
“Time to start preparing for my next race,” coach says with a smile.
